MEMORANDUM
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
1. The musical composition “Entry” must be an original work of the contestant. The
genre could be any of the following: pop, jazz, ballad, classical, blues, soul, rock
or R & B. The entry must be related to, reflective of or appropriate with the theme
“Peace” or “Kapayapaan.” For this competition, the theme of peace and non-
violence may be interpreted broadly from inner personal peace, peace in the home
and among families to peace between people of the county and the world.
2. The content must be in English/Filipino or local dialect.
3. Jail Officers can assist in the music engagement and interpretation of the song.
One or a combination of musical instruments may be used.
4. The song composition of PDL may be performed solo, by duet or by group pf PDL
or BJMP Personnel.
5. The song must not exceed four (4) minutes, inclusive of intro and outro. Entries
must be submitted in full accompaniment version in minus-one.
6. The song entry must not have been used in any previous competition,
commissioned by a third party, or have been commercially released.
7. Words with registered trademarks/brand names, explicit and offensive lyrics are
strictly prohibited and automatically disqualified.
8. All entries shall be considered final once submitted and cannot be modified or
altered.
9. In the event that an entry is selected as finalist, BJMP shall have unlimited right,
worldwide and in perpetuity, to use, re-arrange, and make improvements to the
musical composition.
10. Deadline of submission of entries shall be on August 23, 2023. All entries shall be
judged according to the set of criteria for judging below. The decision of the Board
of Judges, across all stages of this competition, shall be final and unappealable.
11. The Top 5 E ntries will be selected on September 20, 2023 and the winner shall
be formally awarded during the “Gray Dove Award Ceremony” to be conducted on
September 21, 2023.
12. The Regional song entries will be posted in the Official Facebook Page of BJMP for
17 consecutive days starting September 1, 2023.
13. The winning song shall be required to be performed by a Jail Officer during the
Gray Dove Award Ceremony on September 21, 2023 (either physical or via
pre-recorded video).

Originality refers to the degree to which the song’s lyrics are unique, creative, and fresh.
Judges will be looking for lyrics that are not overused, and that bring a new perspectives
or angle to the theme: PEACE. Originality can also refer to the way the lyrics are crafted.
Judges may also consider how well the lyrics fit with the melody and overall feel of the
song. A song with highly lyrics is likely to stand our from the crowd and make a lasting
impression.
Musicality refers to the degree to which the melody of the song is catchy, memorable,
and pleasing to the ear. Judges will be looking for songs that have a strong hook or
chorus that is easy to sing along to, as well as verses that flow smoothly and complement
the melody. The melody should be unique, yet also accessible and easy to remember.
Judges may also consider how well the melody fits the lyrics and overall theme of the
song.
Relevance to the Theme refers to the degree to which the lyrics of the song should be
effectively communicate from the given theme which is “Peace.” It is up to the writer of
the song to interpret his own concept of peace.
Performance refers to the degree to which the singer performs the song effectively and
conveys the emotion and feeling of the lyrics. Judges will be looking for singers who are
able to hit the right notes, stay in tune, deliver a polished performance and connect with
the audience to convey emotion of the song through vocals.
