T H E P R O B L E M A N D I T S B A C KG R O U N D

INTRODUCTION

I n t h e w a ke o f t h e C O V I D - 1 9 o u t b r e a k , t h e fi e l d o f e d u c a ti o n h a s w i t n e s s e d
a t r a n s f o r m a ti v e s h i ft towards a new face of learning. Tr a d i ti o n a l
classrooms have given way to a new normal learning environment, where
students p e r c e p ti o n s play a crucial role in how they engage with
e d u c a ti o n a l c o n t e n t . T h i s a p p r o a c h c o m b i n e s b l e n d e d e d u c a ti o n a l m a t e r i a l s
a n d i n t e r a c ti o n s o p p o r t u n i ti e s w i t h t r a d i ti o n a l c l a s s r o o m m e t h o d s , a l l o w i n g
students to have some control over their learning experience in terms of
p l a c e , ti m e , s p e e d , o r p a t h .

T h e C O V I D - 1 9 p a n d e m i c h a s b r o u g h t a b o u t s i g n i fi c a n t c h a n g e s i n t e a c h i n g
and learning a c ti v i ti e s , n e c e s s i t a ti n g a rapid a d a p t a ti o n to distance
learning. Students have had to m a ke s u b s t a n ti a l adjustments in
t r a n s i ti o n i n g from t r a d i ti o n a l schooling to new normal learning. The
i n fl u e n c e o f t h i s s o c i e t a l i s s u e o n s t u d e n t s i s p r o f o u n d , w i t h t h e n e e d f o r
r e m o t e e d u c a ti o n a l t e r i n g t h e i r l e a r n i n g a c ti v i ti e s a n d r o u ti n e s .

Scholars such as Nurohmat (2020) have emphasized the profound impact of


t h e p a n d e m i c o n t e a c h i n g a n d l e a r n i n g , h i g h l i g h ti n g t h e n e e d t o u n d e r s t a n d
h o w s t u d e n t s p e r c e i v e a n d r e s p o n d t o t h e s u d d e n s h i ft i n t e a c h i n g s t y l e s
o ff e r e d by schools. The i n t e g r a ti o n of blended learning approaches,
i n c l u d i n g t h e u s e o f i n t e g r a t e d l e a r n i n g p l a tf o r m s a n d v i d e o l e s s o n s , r a i s e s
q u e s ti o n s about the extent to which they meet students needs for
v a l i d a ti o n .

A s w e e x p l o r e t h e s t u d e n t ’s p e r s p e c ti v e s o n t h e n e w f a c e o f e d u c a ti o n , i t
becomes vital to understand how they have deliberately organized,
perceived, and engaged with the sensory input that characterizes this
unique learning environment.

T h e p a p e r f o c u s e s o n t h e s i g n i fi c a n t a d j u s t m e n t s t u d e n t s h a v e m a d e i n
t r a n s i ti o n i n g t o n e w n o r m a l l e a r n i n g c o m p a r e d t o t r a d i ti o n a l s c h o o l i n g . I t
a c k n o w l e d g e s t h e p r o f o u n d i n fl u e n c e o f t h e C O V I D - 1 9 p a n d e m i c o n t e a c h i n g
a n d l e a r n i n g a c ti v i ti e s a n d t h e n e e d f o r r a p i d a d a p t a ti o n t o d i s t a n c e
learning. Drawing on scholarly insights, the study explores student
p e r c e p ti o n s , h o w t h e y r e c e i v e a n d r e s p o n d t o t h e s u d d e n s h i ft i n t e a c h i n g
s t y l e s o ff e r e d b y s c h o o l s , a n d w h e t h e r t h e u s e o f i n t e g r a t e d l e a r n i n g
p l a tf o r m s a n d v i d e o l e s s o n s l e s s e n s s t u d e n t s d e m a n d f o r v a l i d a ti o n . T h e
study aims to explore the advantages and disadvantages of new-faced
e d u c a ti o n a n d a l s o f o c u s e s o n s t u d e n t s ’ p e r c e p ti o n s .

T h e t r a n s i ti o n t o a n e w n o r m a l l e a r n i n g e n v i r o n m e n t , c o m b i n i n g b l e n d e d
e d u c a ti o n a l m a t e r i a l s w i t h t r a d i ti o n a l c l a s s r o o m m e t h o d s , h a s s i g n i fi c a n t l y

S C O P E A N D D E L I M I TAT I O N

This research study examines the advantages and disadvantages of distance


l e a r n i n g i n a n e w n o r m a l l e a r n i n g e n v i r o n m e n t , w i t h a s p e c i fi c f o c u s o n
s t u d e n t s ' p e r c e p ti o n s . I t e x p l o r e s h o w s t u d e n t s h a v e a d a p t e d t o a m e t h o d
t h a t c o m b i n e s b l e n d e d e d u c a ti o n a l m a t e r i a l s a n d i n t e r a c ti o n o p p o r t u n i ti e s
with t r a d i ti o n a l classroom methods, considering factors such as the
physical presence of both teacher and student as well as student control
o v e r p l a c e , ti m e , s p e e d , o r p a t h . T h e s t u d y i n v e s ti g a t e s t h e s i g n i fi c a n t
a d j u s t m e n t s m a d e b y s t u d e n t s i n t r a n s i ti o n i n g f r o m t r a d i ti o n a l s c h o o l i n g t o
n e w n o r m a l l e a r n i n g , p a r ti c u l a r l y i n t h e c o n t e x t o f t h e C O V I D - 1 9 p a n d e m i c .
I t a i m s t o u n d e r s t a n d t h e i n fl u e n c e o f t h i s s o c i e t a l i s s u e o n s t u d e n t s '
e x p e r i e n c e s a n d p e r c e p ti o n s o f b l e n d e d l e a r n i n g w h i l e a l s o e x p l o r i n g t h e
r e l e v a n c e o f s t u d e n t p e r c e p ti o n s i n a c c e p ti n g t h e s u d d e n s h i ft i n t e a c h i n g
s t y l e s a n d t h e p o t e n ti a l i m p a c t o f i n t e g r a t e d l e a r n i n g a n d v i d e o l e s s o n s o n
t h e i r d e m a n d f o r v a l i d a ti o n . T h e r e s e a r c h i s l i m i t e d t o e x a m i n i n g s t u d e n t s '
p e r c e p ti o n s i n a b l e n d e d l e a r n i n g e n v i r o n m e n t a n d d o e s n o t e x t e n s i v e l y
a d d r e s s t h e p e r s p e c ti v e s o f t e a c h e r s o r o t h e r s t a k e h o l d e r s , n o r t h e b r o a d e r
i m p l i c a ti o n s o f t h e p a n d e m i c o n e d u c a ti o n .

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research will mainly help the following:

For the ADMINISTRATORS, this study will help them see the changes in the
l e a r n i n g s y s t e m t o d a y , e s p e c i a l l y f r o m s t u d e n t s ’ p e r s p e c ti v e . T h e y c a n u s e
i t t o g e t a n i d e a o f w h a t h a p p e n e d t o t h e s t u d e n t s d u r i n g t h e ti m e o f t h e
n e w e d u c a ti o n s y s t e m , a n d t h e y c a n c o m e u p w i t h a s o l u ti o n t o i m p r o v e t h e
students’ learning system.

F o r t h e T E A C H E R S , t h e y c a n a l s o p r o fi t s i n c e t h e y ’ l l b e a w a r e o f h o w
students feel about the new normal learning, which will allow them to make
strategies and adjustments in their way of teaching so that the students
will learn from them even if they are in distance learning.

F o r t h e F U T U R E S T U D E N T S , t h e y w i l l h a v e a b e tt e r u n d e r s t a n d i n g o f h o w
senior high school students perceived, experienced, and cope with the new
n o r m a l o f e d u c a ti o n .

For FUTURE RESEARCHERS, they can learn from this study and contribute
new thoughts on this subject. They can use it as a reference and learn some
details about this research that they can apply to their own research.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Blended Learning: d e s c r i b e s a n i n s t r u c ti o n a l a p p r o a c h t h a t i n t e g r a t e s
online and face-to-face learning components. It involves combining online
e d u c a ti o n a l materials, resources, and i n t e r a c ti o n s with t r a d i ti o n a l
classroom methods, o ff e r i n g fl e x i b i l i t y and personalized learning
experiences.

Covid-19 Pandemic: denotes the global health crisis that emerged with the
outbreak of the coronavirus disease in 2019. The pandemic has led to
s i g n i fi c a n t changes in teaching and learning a c ti v i ti e s , including the
w i d e s p r e a d a d o p ti o n o f d i s t a n c e l e a r n i n g i n r e s p o n s e t o s o c i a l d i s t a n c i n g
measures and school closures.

D i s t a n c e L e a r n i n g : r e p r e s e n t s a n e d u c a ti o n a l a p p r o a c h w h e r e s t u d e n t s a n d
teachers are physically separated, relying on technology-mediated
c o m m u n i c a ti o n f o r t e a c h i n g a n d l e a r n i n g . I t t y p i c a l l y i n v o l v e s t h e u s e o f
o n l i n e p l a tf o r m s , d i g i t a l r e s o u r c e s , a n d v i r t u a l i n t e r a c ti o n s t o f a c i l i t a t e
e d u c a ti o n a l a c ti v i ti e s .

Demand for V a l i d a ti o n : relates to students’ desire for a ffi r m a ti o n ,


r e c o g n i ti o n , o r a p p r o v a l o f t h e i r l e a r n i n g p r o g r e s s a n d a c h i e v e m e n t s . I t
explores whether the use of integrated learning and video lessons.

M i x e d L e a r n i n g E n v i r o n m e n t : r e f e r s t o a n e d u c a ti o n a l s e tti n g t h a t c o m b i n e s
t r a d i ti o n a l classroom methods with online e d u c a ti o n a l materials and
i n t e r a c ti o n o p p o r t u n i ti e s . I t i n v o l v e s t h e p h y s i c a l p r e s e n c e o f b o t h t e a c h e r s
and students while also allowing students some control over aspects such as
t h e l o c a ti o n , ti m i n g , p a c e , o r p a t h o f t h e i r l e a r n i n g .
