ART IN EARLY CIVILIZATION

Stone Age
After watching the video, answer the following questions:
. 1.What1 are the materials being used in cave painting?
Prehistoric painters employed the nearby pigments. These colors included so-called earth pigments
like limonite, hematite, red ochre, yellow ochre, and umber, as well as charcoal from fire, burnt
bones, and lime white made from pulverized calcite.

.2. According to the video, explain the Neolithic Art.


In Prehistoric art, the term ‘’Neolithic art’’ refers to any works of art and craft produced by societies
that had given up their semi-nomadic way of life of foraging for sustenance in favor of farming and
animal husbandry.

.3. What3 are examples of stationary Art? Where it be found?


Art that was stationary was just that-stationary. The best examples can be seen in Paleolithic cave
paintings in western Europe, which are now well-known . Mineral mixtures, ochres, burnt bones
meal, and charcoal were combined with water, blood, animal fats, and tree sap to create paints.

. 4.Explain
4 Portable Art.
Small pieces of prehistoric art that be transported from one location to another are referred to
as portable art. These works are particularly typicalof the upper Palaeolithic and Mesolithic
periods of art. These objects, which were frequently made of ivory, bones antlers,or stone
have been discovered from South Africa all the way up to Eurasia.

5. What are the two-dimensional perspectives used by Stone Age Artist that are
mentioned in the video? Explain
The two-dimensional viewpoints used by stone age artists included frontal views profile views
and occasionally a composite perspective. They increased the recognizability of their topics by
combining views. For instance, a human leg might be painted in profile so that spectators can
quickly recognize the foot.

Egyptian Art

.1. What are the three periods mentioned during Egyptian Time?
The Old Kingdom(about 2,700-2,200 BCE), the Middle Kingdom (2,050-1,800 BCE), and the
New Kingdom (around 1,550-1,100 BCE) are the three major eras that make up ancient Egypt’s
history. The Late New Kingdom, which lasted until roughly 343 B.C.E.,came after the new
Kingdom. 1

2. Explain the sizes, colors of different figures during Egyptian Art. What does it
symbolizes?
The sizes of different figures is highly symbolic in ancient Egyptian art. Egyptian use
of color was also highly suggestive. Egyptian painting used of the same mix
perspective in stone age art.

3. It was mentioned in the video that the Egyptian Painting has its “flatness”. What does it
mean?
Flatness refers to a stylistic convection where figure are depicted with a well-rounded,
robust appearance, regardless of their actual body proportions. The flatness in Egyptian
painting symbolized prosperity, vitality, and connection to the devine

. 4.Explain the “Registers” according to Egyptian Art.


Registers, or parallel lines, were used to arrange the scenes. These registers divide the space
and serveas the figurine’ ground lines.

5. Site an example of sculpture during Egyptian Period and Explain its meaning.
One should never forget the basic function of the majority of Egyptian sculpture, which is to
depict the individual in death before the deities of the great temples, when examining the
obvious sculptural qualities of late period work.
