2.6. When waste is not properly managed, it causes pollution. This
harms our environment, affects plants and animals and can cause
health problems for people as diseases are spread. In 1904 the
population in South Africa was 5 million, now it is about 50 million.
The more people there are, the more impact there is on the world’s
resources such as space, food, water and the more waste we
produce.

Where does it all go? The solution to the huge amount of rubbish and
waste we produce is to: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – this idea has
become so popular around the word that there are even songs written
about it.
