TASK REQUIREMENTS
In this unit, you are required to follow a site demolition plan, demolition method
statement and demolition instructions to:
carry out the demolition of one minor building structure which must include the
removal of an external load-bearing wall to form an opening of no less than three
metres wide
safely handle, store and stack materials and components identified for salvage,
ready for transport
safely handle materials and building components to storage areas using manual
handling techniques.
Your assessor will provide you with a demolition task which is relevant to your situation
and which will allow you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge outlined above.
TASKS
Three tasks have been provided for this unit.
Knowledge test
In this task, you will answer a range of questions relating to the technical processes for
demolition of a range of structures. This is an open book test which your assessor may
ask you to complete in the classroom or as a homework activity.
You must answer all questions in the knowledge test correctly to be marked as
satisfactory.
Planning task
In this task, you will prepare for the demolition by reading and interpreting the site
demolition plan and supporting documents. You will also develop a work plan for the
demolition.
A planning template (Part A) and workflow planning template (Part B) with marking
guidance have been provided for this task. The work plan which you develop will be
used in the next task (Practical task).
Practical task
In this task, you will rely on the planning and preparation work that you completed in
the first task to inspect the site and carry out the demolition according to the demolition
plan and supporting documents. You will also remove the components to storage or
disposal, and clean up the site.
meet with the supervisor of the job on-site to confirm the requirements for the
demolition, discuss any problems and clarify any issues.
clean up.
You will be observed by your assessor while you complete this task and an assessor
observation checklist is provided. It is important to consider the work that you did in the
planning phase when completing the practical task. The safety standards, legislative and
environmental requirements must all be consistent.
Read through all parts of the tasks before you get started to ensure that you are
clear about what you need to do.
Review the assessor observation checklist before your practical assessment so that
you know which skills and knowledge you need to demonstrate.
Wear PPE.
Ensure that you work safely and follow your policies and procedures.
