Truth and Reconciliation

1.Truth and Reconciliation to me would the act of both being transparent with your new
promises of fixing a relationship that you ruined with your actions, it could also be someone
fixing two different peoples relationships to make them have a better relationship. This action
has to be sincere or else the whole point of ding would have been for nothing, besides if your
intent with truth and reconciliation is to deceive the other person or people then you haven’t
done anything to improve your relationship with them. I Believe that truth and reconciliation is
truly explained by its definition.

2. The direct definition of reconciliation is “the restoration of friendly relations.” so with

this information the relations with the indigenous people could possibly be improved, however
some people will not tolerate just attempting to make friendly relations with people some
indigenous people want justice for the crimes committed against their people, these want people
want some punishment for those who mistreated them and for people who currently mistreat
them now. The relations with the government and the indigenous can be improved since it is
only very small group of people that can apologize for the actions of the governments past. The
government can also compensate for their past actions, however true reconciliation would not
be possible because that would require all Canadians to restore or create friendly relations with
the indigenous and you cannot convince everyone to do so.

3. The intentions of the truth and reconciliation commision was do just what the name
says it is to sincerely restore friendly relations with people who were mistreated. In this case it is
the indigenous peoples of Canada. I have three ways to not only improve my relations with
indigenous people but also replace the relations of people around me with the indigenous
people.
1. Improving my relationship with the indigenous people is my first step to honor
the intentions of the truth and reconciliation commission. The way I can do this is by
listening to their stories of the mistreatment of their people and of them and if I can’t find
anyone I can easily watch documentaries on these stories and I can read history books
of indigenous past. This all helps me understand what they went through and helps me
grow sympathy and even empathy for what happened to them or what could be
happening to them right now. Another way I can improve my relationship with indigenous
people is by learning their culture and what lessons are taught to them as children and
beyond. This understanding of someone’s culture can be a create a bond between
people and form a very deep understanding of what was taken away and what over the
years was truly lost so that I in the future can understand what was morally wrong with
the mistreatment and the assimilation of indigenous children in residential schools.

2. Improve the relations of the people in my life with indigenous would be my

second step. Of course i might not be able to convince everyone around me to improve
their relationship with indigenous people but the more people I tell about the situation of
the indigenous people and their past the more aware they are of it regardless if they care
to improve their relationship or not with the indigenous people of canada. If they do care
about improving their relationship then I will have them talk to the same people I did
about their stories so they the people around can have a deeper understanding of the
indigenous people of canada.

3. I will consider all that I have with the information I have retained from the
stories and research that I acquired when I talk about the indigenous people of canada.

Things that can I do besides the TRC are limited since I am not a government
official, however what I can do is just spread the message of the indigenous people of
canada.
