1. WELCOMING
Dear student,
Welcome to EBUS1624 focusing on General Management! Mr. Maseko, Mrs. Sereeco, and
Ms. Dapula will be responsible for teaching this module. This module will be presented as a
BLENDID MODULE in 2023. This entails that some content will be presented or completed
in a Face2Face environment and other components in an online environment. Lecturers will
communicate weekly using Blackboard announcements. These aspects will be discussed in
more detail throughout the module guide. So make sure you read through the module guide
and familiarise yourself with the detail.
Here is all the information that you will need to contact the lecturers, as well as other relevant
staff in the Department of Business Management.

Students are encouraged to attend the Monday and Wednesday sessions and to join
in the discussion to understand the content. You, as the student, decide to attend or
not to attend these sessions and a lecturer cannot be held accountable for your
decision. If you choose not to attend, it is your own responsibility to work through the
content.

2. TUTORIAL SESSIONS
This module has tutors to help students understand the content. The tutorials are not
compulsory and do not contribute to your semester mark. The tutorials' primary purpose is to
enrich your knowledge, create an EBUS1624 community and be exposed to assessment-type
questions asked in previous years and how to approach these questions. Even though the
sessions are not compulsory to attend, the lecturers will encourage you to attend these

sessions.
There will be different tutorial groups. Below are the different time slots and venues are
displayed. You ONLY need to enroll for one of these groups. More information will be
shared during the orientation session at the beginning of the semester.

• Students should ensure that they check Blackboard frequently to ensure that they
are up to date with module communication and requirements. Also check your
UFS4Life email account regularly as all module announcements are ONLY sent to
your UFS4Life email account.
• Please note that students are required AT ALL TIMES to ONLY USE their
UFS4Life email accounts to communicate to teaching staff. This makes it easier for
lecturers to track other student related data, etc.

5. ASSESSMENT
This module will have SUMMATIVE AND FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS. Below you will
find a summary of all the important dates and weights towards your semester mark. It will
comprise of the following assessments:

2. Semester Tests
• The semester tests will be completed in a venue on campus. The venue will be
communicated on Blackboard and in class closer to the date the tests are written.
• Students will be required to complete two of the three tests. You are not allowed to
complete all three tests.
• It is highly recommended to write semester tests 1 & 2.
• For more information consult the Policies and Guidelines of the Economic and Management
Faculty available on Blackboard.
3. Group Assignment
*Assessment dates and times are subject to change. In the event of any changes to this version, a

2. Optical forms
In this module, optical forms will be used with tests and examinations. A guide will be available
on Blackboard on how to complete these forms.
VERY IMPORTANT: Ensure that you complete the optical form correctly. If you
complete the optical form incorrectly, the system will not be able to identify you or your
answers and you will forfeit the marks for that specific section of the assessment.
According to the rules and regulations of the Faculty of Economics and Management Science,
the final mark of this module is calculated as follows:
Should you encounter a valid technical issue with any online assessment, you have to send
a query within 2 days after the assessment deadline as per the e-assessment guidelines
of the University of the Free State. See below the guidelines.

6. UPDATING OF MODULE INFORMATION AND RESOURCES
The module schedule and syllabus (study material), in writing, can be updated or modified at
any time by the lecturer or the Department of Business Management. It is the responsibility of
students enrolled in this module to stay up-to-date with the schedule and syllabus. An
announcement of this type will be communicated on Blackboard. It is recommended that
students check Blackboard daily (if possible) to keep up to date with what is happening in
