Assignment 2

“Oedipus the king” is a play by Sophocles about a king

called Oedipus who kills his father and marries his
mother. The play takes place in Oedipus' palace,
Oedipus starts digging in the past in a hope he will
rescue his people from the plague which occurs
because of a horrible sin committed. Teiresias warned
Oedipus that his curiosity will turn on him. However,
he refuses, he insists on that to reveal the truth. In my
opinion, Oedipus made a big problem, he was wrong
when he insists on knowing the fact. Moreover, he was
warned thrice, but his stubborn attitude led to his
destruction and brought his misfortune with his
hands. In fact, one may not blame Oedipus because
the curiosity kills the cat, but the truth turned
Oedipus' life upside down, he lost his kingdom, and he
became a blind, he continued his life suffering in the
exile. Finally, one mustn't dig and knew everything in
the past, or he will regret like Oedipus.
