The blending system was
designed to blend Merey and
Mesa crude oil to produce a
'nominal' Leona crude with an
API gravity of 24 (density
910kg/m3).

blender was designed to
operate from the gravity feed
from the tank-farm the system
was designed with a maximum
pressure-drop of 10 psi while
operational. Flowmeter
selection, the mixing system
and blender skid configuration
were crucial to ensure the
success of the project.
The Jiskoot blender included
the density 'trim' system that
'tunes' the blend ratio in real
time to ensure that the final
blended product remains on
specification throughout the
whole batch even when the
quality of the feedstock varies.
To meet the high flow turn-
down and minimal pressure
drop requirements for this
application, the system was
designed with high and low
flow streams for each of the
feed crude oils.
The blender included the
following features:
• Volumetric correction to
standard temperature (60ºF)
using API 2540/IP200
• The ability to 'bulk load'
single products through the
blender (using one or two
lines)
• Flow weighted average
density for the whole batch
ensure optimal blend quality
with minimal feedstock cost
• 'Self tuning' blend
algorithm to optimise batch
size and performance
• Mid-batch error tracking in
the event that the blend is
stopped mid batch it can be re-
started with no loss of final
blend quality.
• Cutback ensures the blend
remains on specification in the
event of product starvation in
any stream.
The system was supplied as a
fully integrated skid and control
system, installed by the client
and commissioned by Jiskoot
with a performance guarantee.
