Drape the client to permit minimal exposure (but
adequate for examiner)

top linen so that one corner of the blanket is
pointed toward client’s head to form a

15. Client is instructed to hold onto the bath
blanket. Linen is fanfolded to foot of bed
Examination by palpation
16. Client is requested to lie nearer the
examiner’s side of the bed, flex the knees
with feet firmly on the bed and allow the
thighs to separate.
17. Lateral corners of the sheet can be wrapped
around the legs in a spiral fashion until the
feet is completely covered.
By speculum examination
18. Have the client flex both knees and bring
buttocks at the edge of the table
19. Remove soil pads or dressings
20. Position feet in the stirrups to assume a
lithotomy position.
a. Drape the client as 14, 15, 17
21. Make client comfortable with a small pillow
under the head
22. Adjust light for maximum focus
23. Wash hands. Don sterile gloves.
24. Perform a vulval swabbing
25. Prepare equipment for examiner.
26. Remained with the client during the
procedure and reassure during the
examination by explanation at each step.
27. Chart of the procedure includes:
(a) Abnormal secretions, (c) Swelling,
(b) ulcerations, (d) Varicosities
(e) Clients’ tolerance
