Protected software is used to protect your computer from malware/programs and people who
try to gain unauthorized access to users’ computer. A cleaning tool is used to free up disk

formatting is useful software that manages space by creating partitions and preventing
damage to data while not storing data on bad partitions.

INTRODUCTION
There are many ways for a computer system to be upgraded. For example, updating the
software to latest version or replacing/adding hardware components to improve the
performance of your computer. Improving the system can be important because it does not
damage the system and maximize productivity.
HARDWARE IMPROVEMENT
Using outdated or damaged components can make a computer system run faster if you
upgrade your computer by adding new components or replacing old ones. Newer hardware
components offer better performance and better features than older models, so they can take
full advantage of computers and provide new features that increase usability.
There are two types of hard drives that can be added to your computer internal or external. The
recommended internal hard drive is the Samsung HD 103SJ 1TB hard drive. It has two 500GB cards
which can be accessed at 7200 RPM. This drive offers high performance and lower power
consumption. Large storage capacity allows more programs and files to be stored on your computer.
This hard drive costs around $91. For external hard drives, an external Seagate 2 TB hard drive is
recommended. It can hold up to 2 terabytes of data and uses a USB 3.0 port- providing fast read and
write speeds. Hard drives are also equipped with energy management features that control energy
efficiency. The performance management system also optimizes productivity. Overall, this external

hard drive provides fast portable access to large amounts of data and can be used as a backup device
for your computer. This unit costs around $69.99.
SOFTWARE
Like hardware, the software can be replaced with a newer version or removed when it is not
needed. Updating the software provides better system performance and means that the
programs needed by user are more useful. Removing unused applications frees up space that
can be used to store files, and so on.
For auciliary software, such as antivirus software, updating software can increase system
security and prevent the computer for tampering. In some updates, the program is adapted to
deal with new viruses and security threats. Antivirus costs around $60- a year and usually
includes free updates during that time.

The cost of upgrading operating systems varies some operating systems, such as Linux, can
be upgraded or changed for free because they are open source operating systems. For other
operating systems, such as windows and Mac OS, users have to pay a little to upgrade to a
better operating system. Apple recently lowered the cost of upgrading fir Mac OS, but
previously the upgrade cost was around $130. To upgrade to a newer Windows operating
system, users usually have to pay for a new version of the operating system cheaper prices
are usually available for anyone who has already using Windows. For windows 8, the update
to Windows 8.1 is free, but to upgrade to Windows 7 or earlier, users must pay for update.
In this particular computer system, upgrading the operating systems to windows 8 or 8.1 will
improve the performance of your computer. The provides better security than windows than
previous version and continues to be supported because Microsoft stopped support fir
windows 7. Windows 8 eventually runs much faster than 7 starts fasters and is able to
communicate better with processor and other components on the computer.

system: the computer can be recovered form a backup if is crashes or the hard disk is
damaged and dirt does not effect the operation of important components on the computer and
allows it to work at huger speed. Performing routine maintenance tasks do not cost users
anything unless they have to replace components on the computer or buy a device to back up
(such as a hard drive).
Routine computer maintenance consists of tasks that user must do daily, weekly, or monthly
on your computer so that the computer can run efficiently, quickly, and for a long period of
time. Most maintenance only takes a few minutes and should be part of user computer's
routine use.
With all computer systems, maintenance is a big task, especially in the case of high-quality
manufacturing. Choosing a computer system (computer) for users requires detailed and
accurate maintenance to ensure proper operation. During routine maintenance, user need to
clean it self or other system components, ensuring that the software is also easy to use.
Routine maintenance requires cleaning disk, defragmentation, updating, archiving, and clear
physical tasks:
DISK CLEANUP
Over time, usually at one-week intervals, garbage builds up on the hard disk. This includes
temporary files, recycled files, and cookies that flood the user hard drive and slow down PC.
For example, if the user use Internet Explorer and don't clean temporary files, the browser
seems to move around the edges. Running a clean disk in Windows System Tools helps and
cleanses.
16
COMPUTER SYSTEMS LD79876
DEFRAGMENTATION
As the user continue to use more files and add files to the user hard drive, they are broken
into blocks and distributed to various locations on user hard drive. When user run the
defragmenter, these fragments are placed in one place, so the computer can find all the files
easier and faster. This process must be carried out approximately once a month.
UPDATES
Updating computer software fixes bugs and vulnerabilities, and provides the latest version of
software that usually works better. In most software programs, user can set automatic updates
for a certain time, which guarantees regular updates. This is highly recommended for
antivirus software.
BACKUP
Backing up the user computer should be in to support checklist, even though it may not be a
support function. If user use an external hard drive and backup software, the user must run
the software at least once a week or set the program to do it automatically. This way, if a
computer failure occurs, the user will not lose the data that user has stored on the user
computer's hard drive.
PHYSICAL SUPPORT
In addition to software support, user also need to do regular physical cleaning. If the user has
a desktop computer, open the case and blow off the dust. For laptops, use canned air to blow
the keys in and around them, removing dirt, dust, and other debris that has accumulated there.
17
COMPUTER SYSTEMS LD79876
Dust and dirt can produce heat which can affect the performance of user computer. The more
data the user collect, the higher the chance that the user’s computer will overheat and die.
