The future of introverts

Many people see introverts working alone while extroverts are all working in a group.

But how about an environment where both introverts and extroverts can work in. According to

author Susan Cain, “A third to a half of the population are introverts. That’s one out of two or

three people you know” (The Power of Introverts, 2012). In many classrooms, the seating

arrangement have the students facing together, or have the arrangement where students can

easily communicate with one another. You could see the same thing in the workplace where

there are open plan offices along with the noises and the gazes of coworkers. But if we have both

classrooms and work offices set up to have a “casual, chatty cafe-style” which was mentioned by

Susan Cain in her presentation, it could benefit both who are introverted and extroverted

What makes introverts different from extroverts is their ability to process information.

Since introverts prefer to work alone rather than working with other people, working alone can

boost an individual's creativity, confidence, and self-esteem. On the other hand, in an

environment where people are arranged to be in a group could cause a rise in conflicts with one

another, since people tend to mimic or question and give off opinions of other people without

you even knowing what is going on. But people need to have human communication while still

having the privacy to be able to work alone.

In today's world, people envision the perfect student to have the same characteristics as

someone who is extroverted. But even the most successful people such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk,

and even Albert Einstein are introverts. John Rampton, “23 of the most amazingly successful
introverts in history.” July 20, 2015. This is because introverts are more creative and rely more

on deep thoughts when they are in an environment that allows them to work independently. One

thing that makes introverts is their ability to be a good leader. Even though many introverts are

shy and antisocial, they are really great listeners and are typically more open to ideas and

suggestions, and are unlikely to follow the first idea that is given.

If Classrooms and offices today have an arrangement like a casual, chatty cafe, like what

Susan Cain mentioned, it encourages people to work alone and privately, while still being able to

work together so you're still able to communicate with other people. If schools encourage this, it

would teach students to work together and also to work individually.

In conclusion, working together is beneficial for both school and work, humans still need

some sort of communication. This arrangement Susan Cain recommended gives the best of both

worlds since it gives more privacy to be able to work alone and it also gives the freedom

encouraging people to communicate. I Believe by encouraging this, it will give the privacy that

introverts work best in while being able to interact and exchange ideas with other people, which

is great for both introverts and extroverts.
