17 Sustainable Global Goals

1 - Meaning of Sustainable Goal:

Sustainable means the use of natural resources when this use is kept at a steady level that is not likely to damage
the environment.

Sustainability means that a process or state can be maintained at a certain level for as long as is wanted. The
Commission defined sustainable development as development that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
2 - A goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envision, plan and commit to achieve.
People endeavour to reach goals within a finite time by setting deadlines.

4 - No Poverty

The world is making huge strides in overcoming global poverty. Since 1990, a quarter of the world has risen out of extreme
poverty. Now, less than 10% of the world lives in extreme poverty, surviving on $1.90 a day or less. Ending global poverty is a
priority not only for World Vision. By 2030, as part of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, global leaders aim to
eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere.

5 - Zero Hunger

Zero Hunger – pledges to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture, and is the
priority of the World Food Programme. Every day, WFP and its partners work to bring us closer to a zero hunger world.
6 - Good Health and Well Being

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and
contamination

7 - Quality Education

Quality education aims at developing a balanced set of capabilities of children they require to become economically productive,
develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to peaceful and democratic societies and enhance individual well -being.

8 - Gender Equality

It is the vision that men and women should be treated equally in social, economic and all other aspects of society, and to not
be discriminated against on the basis of their gender.
9 - Clean Water and Sanitation

Ensuring universal access to safe and affordable drinking water by 2030 requires we invest in adequate infrastructure, provide
sanitation facilities and encourage hygiene at every level. Protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems such as forests,
mountains, wetlands and rivers is essential if we are to mitigate water scarcity. More international cooperation is also needed to
encourage water efficiency and support treatment technologies in developing countries.

10 - Affordable and Clean Energy

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

11 - Decent Work and Economic Growth

Encourage sustained economic growth by achieving higher levels of productivity and through technological innovation.
Promoting policies that encourage entrepreneurship and job creation are key to this, as are effective measures to eradicate
forced labour, slavery and human trafficking. With these targets in mind, the goal is to achieve full and productive employment,
and decent work, for all women and men by 2030
12 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Technological progress is also key to finding lasting solutions to both economic and environmental challenges, such as providing
new jobs and promoting energy efficiency. Promoting sustainable industries, and investing in scientific research and innovati on,
are all important ways to facilitate sustainable development.

13 - Reduced Inequality

Income inequality is a global problem that requires global solutions. This involves improving the regulation and monitoring of
financial markets and institutions, encouraging development assistance and foreign direct investment to regions where the need
is greatest. Facilitating the safe migration and mobility of people is also key to bridging the widening divide.

14 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

Making cities safe and sustainable means ensuring access to safe and affordable housing, and upgrading slum settlements. It
also involves investment in public transport, creating green public spaces, and improving urban planning and management in a
way that is both participatory and inclusive.
15 - Responsible Consumption and Production

Encouraging industries, businesses and consumers to recycle and reduce waste is equally important, as is supporting developing
countries to move towards more sustainable patterns of consumption by 2030.

16 - Climate Actions

Strengthening the resilience and adaptive capacity of more vulnerable regions, such as land locked countries and island states,
must go hand in hand with efforts to raise awareness and integrate measures into national policies and strategies.

17 - Life Below Water

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) create a framework to sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal
ecosystems from land-based pollution, as well as address the impacts of ocean acidification.
18 - Life on Land

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to conserve and restore the use of terrestrial ecosystems such as forests,
wetlands, drylands and mountains by 2020. Promoting the sustainable management of forests and halting deforestations is also
vital to mitigating the impact of climate change.

19 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies by reducing all forms of violence, and working with governments and communitie s
to find lasting solutions to conflict and insecurity. Strengthening the rule of law and promoting human and strengthening the
participation of developing countries in the institutions of global governance.
20 - Partnerships For The Goals

The goals aim to enhance North-South and South-South cooperation by supporting national plans to achieve all the targets.
Promoting international trade, and helping developing countries increase their exports, is all part of achieving a universal rules-
based and equitable trading system that is fair and open, and benefits all.
