Q 1 Two magnetic poles, one of which is four times stronger than the other ,exert a force of 5gf
on each other when placed at a distance of 10cm ,find the strength of the pole?

Q 2 A magnetic dipole of length 10cm has a pole strength of 20 Am .find the magnetic moment
of the dipole ?

Q 3 A bar magnet of magnetic moment of 5Am 2 has a poles of 20cm apart .calculate the pole
strength .

Q 4 What is the magnitude of the equatorial and axial fields due to a bar magnet of length 5cm
at a distance of 50cm from the midpoint ? the magnetic moment of the bar magnet is 0.40Am2.

Q 5 A bar magnet of length 10cm has a pole strength of 10Am .calculate the magnetic field at a
distance of 0.2m from its centre at a point on its (i)axial line and (ii)equatorial line

Q 6 Two identical magnetic dipoles of magnetic moment 1.0Am2 each are placed at a separation
of 2m with their axis perpendicular to each other .what are the resultant magnetic field at a point
mid –way between the dipoles?

Q 7 A magnetized needle of magnetic moment 4.8*10-2JT-1is placed at 30˚ with the direction of
uniform magnetic field of magnitude 3*10-2T.what is torque acting on the needle ?

Q 8 A short bar magnet placed with its axis at 30˚ to a uniform magnetic field of 0.2T
experiences a torque of 0.06Nm.(i)Calculate the magnetic moment of the magnet (ii)find out
what orientations of the magnet corresponds to its stable equilibrium in the magnetic field .

12A.The sense of flow of current appears to be clockwise to an observer .what is the magnitude
and direction of the magnetic moment vector associated with the current loop?

Q 10 An electron in an atom revolves around the nucleus in an orbit of radius 0.5A˚.Calculate


the equivalent moment if the frequency of revolution of the electron is 1010MHz.

Q 11An electron moves around the nucleus in a hydrogen atom of radius 0.51A˚,with a velocity
of 2*106ms-1.Calculate the following :

(i) The equivalent current due to orbital motion of electron


(ii) The magnetic field produced at the centre of the nucleus
(iii) The magnetic moment associated with the electron

Q 12 A current of 7A is flowing in a plane circular coil radius 1.0cm having 100 turns .the coil
placed in a uniform magnetic fields of 0.2Wbm -2. If the coil is free to rotate ,what orientations
would corresponds to its(i) stable equilibrium (ii)unstable equilibrium ? calculate the potential
energy of the coil in these cases ?

Q 13 In a magnetic meridian of a certain places ,the horizontal component of the earth’s


magnetic field is 0.25G and dip angel is 60˚.what is the magnetic field of the earth in this
location ?

Q 14 The horizontal and vertical components of the earth’s fields at a place are 0.22 Gauss and
0.38Gauss respectively .calculate the angel of dip and resultant intensity of the earth’s field?

Q 15If the horizontal component of earth’s magnetic fields at a place where the dip angle is 60˚
is 0.4*10-4T , calculate the vertical component and resultant magnetic field at that place .

Q 16 The earth magnetic field at the equator is approximately 0.4G. Estimate the earth’s dipole
moment .radius of the earth =6400Km

Q 17 Obtain the earth’s magnetization .assume that the earth ‘s field can be approximated by a
giant bar magnet of magnetic moment 8.0*1022Am-2.the earth’s radius is 6400km

Q 18 A magnetizing field of 1500A/m produces a magnetic flux of 2.4*10-5weber in a bar of iron


of cross section 0.5cm2.calculate permeability and susceptibility of the iron bar used ?

Q 19 A solenoid of 500 turns /meter is carrying a current of 3A.its core is made of iron which
has a relative permeability of 5000.Determine the magnitudes of the magnetic
intensity ,magnetization and the magnetic field inside the core ?
