through the coil is doubled and the radius of the coil is halved?
3. A circular coil of 500 turns has a radius of 2.0 m and carries a current of 2A. What is the magnetic field at a point

1. State Biot -Savart law. Express it in vector form. Using this law, derive the expression for the magnetic field at the
center of a current carrying circular loop.
2. Two concentric coils X and Y of radii 16 cm and 10 cm respectively lie in the same vertical plane containing the
north-south direction. Coil X has 20 turns and carries a current of 16 A; coil Y has 25 turns and carries a current of
18 A. The sense of current in X is anti-clockwise and in Y, clockwise, for an observer looking at the coil facing
west. Give the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic field due to the coils at their centre. [Ans. 1.6 ´ 10-3
T.]
3. State the Biot-Savart law for the magnetic field due to a current carrying element. Use this law to obtain a formula
for magnetic field at the centre of a circular loop of radius R carrying a steady current I. Sketch the magnetic field
lines for a current loop clearly indicating the direction of the field. [CBSE 2006, 2007]
4. State Biot - Savart law. Using this law derive an expression for the magnetic field due to a circular coil carrying
current at a point on its axis. What is its direction? Draw the magnetic field lines due to a circular current carrying
loop.

13. A proton and an alpha particle are projected in a perpendicular magnetic field B which exits in a region of
width ‘d’ . Find the ratio of sines of the angle of deviation suffered by the proton and alpha particle, if before
entering in the magnetic field region both particles (i) have the same momentum (ii) have the same kinetic energy.

frequency is 10 MHz what should be the operating magnetic field for accelerating protons? If the radius of it’s
'Dees’ is 60 cm, what is the kinetic energy of the proton beam produced by accelerator? Express your answer in

2. (a) Using Bio-Savart law derive an expression for the magnetic field due to a current carrying loop at a point on
the axis of the loop.

section of radius 'a'. Plot a graph showing the variation of magnetic field 'B' produced by the conductor with
the distance 'r' from the axis of the conductor in the region (a) r< a and (b) r > a.

3. Depict the magnetic field lines due to two straight, long, parallel conductors carrying current I 1 and I2 in the same
direction. Hence deduce an expression for the force acting per unit length on one conductor due to the other. Is
this force attractive or repulsive? Also define unit of current one ampere.

4. A rectangular loop having side length l & b is present in external uniform magnetic field B . The loop contains N
number of turns and carrying current I. The loop is free to rotate about an axis lying in the plane of loop and
perpendicular to the direction of magnetic field. Derive the expression for the torque acting on the loop. Express it

minimum.
5. Discuss construction and working of moving coil galvanometer with labeled diagram. Define and derive the

6. A uniform magnetic field of 1.5 T exists in a cylindrical region of radius 10 cm, its direction is parallel to the axis
along east to west. A wire carrying current of 7.0A in the north to south direction passes through this region.
What is the magnitude and direction of the force on the wire if (a) the wire intersects the axis, (b) the wire is
turned from N-S to northeast-southwest direction, (c) the wire in N-S direction is lowered from the axis by a
