Learning Objectives:
Students will learn vocabulary words related to people and family
relationships in the singular and plural forms with definite articles.
Students will be able to identify subject pronouns in Spanish.

Subject pronouns
A pronoun is a word that is used instead of a noun or noun phrase.
Subject pronouns identify the person who is performing an action:

Subject pronouns
Nosotros and ellos are used to refer to a group of all males or to groups of males and
females. Nosotras and ellas refer to groups of females.
Tú is used to speak to a child, friend, classmate etc.
Usted is used to speak to an adult or person in authority-parents, teachers, elders, etc.

If the subject is plural, use the right side of the chart.
If the subject is a noun y yo (and I) the pronoun is nosotros/as. (y yo = nosotros/as)

If the subject is a noun y tú (and you) the pronoun is ustedes. (y tú = ustedes)

The verb ser (to be)
Verb – A word that expresses an action, or links the subject to a noun or adjective
(subject complement).
I am a student.
Infinitive Form – The basic form of a verb. In English it has “to” in front. Ex. “to be”, “to
run”, “to walk”. In Spanish it end in –er, -ar, or –ir. Ex. “ser”, “estar”, “abrir”.
Conjugation - Changing the verb so that it agrees with the subject.
