Unit: Query Performance

At the conclusion of this exercise, you will be able to:


 Get aggregate proposals using BW Statistics
 Determine suitable aggregates from ones proposed by BW
 Activate and deactivate aggregates
Obtain proposals for aggregates from BW based on BW statistics.
From these proposals determine a suitable aggregate for this
InfoCube. Using the activate and deactivate functionality in the
process of finding a suitable aggregate.

1-1 Get aggregate proposals using BW Statistics.


1-1-1 From the Administrator Workbench go into the ‘Aggregate
Maintenance’ screen. (use the InfoCube AGGR_XX).
1-1-2 Have the BW System propose aggregates for you based on the BW
Statistics.
1-1-3 What does selecting the ‘optimize’ button accomplish in regards to
finding a suitable aggregate?

1-2 Select Suitable Aggregates from ones proposed.


1-2-1 What are the criteria for selecting potential aggregates? From the
proposed aggregates select 3 potential aggregates for testing.
1-2-2 Activate and fill the three selected aggregates.
1-2-3 Execute the queries of the InfoCube. Which aggregates are being
called up?

1-3 Activate and deactivate aggregates.


1-3-1 Select one the aggregates that has been called up after executing
the queries of the InfoCube. Deactivate the aggregate and execute
the queries again. What is the result?
1-3-2 What do you need to be careful about when deactivating an
aggregate?

2-1 Analyze a query.

2-1-2 Go into the ‘Query Monitor’ screen by entering in the transaction
code RSRT.
2-1-2 Using the drop-down menu select the query ‘SALES QUERY
SPLIT’ with the technical name ‘AGGR_XX_SD_1’.
2-1-2 Execute this query in ‘execute + debug’ mode.
2-1-2 What kind of a query is this? What aggregates does the system
suggest that you use for this query? What aggregates is it already
using?
2-1-2 Create, activate, and fill aggregates proposed.
2-1-2 Execute the query ‘SALES QUERY SPLIT’ with the technical
name ‘AGGR_XX_SD_1’and check to see if the aggregates
created are now being used.
