Question 1.

a. Identifying all reactions at the base due to vertical loading

Figure 1 illustrates the manual solution for this part, while Figure 2 is the resulted reactions using the
SAP2000.

b. All reactions at the base due to horizontal loading was calculated using Portal method.
Figures 3 and 4 show the hand written solution, the results from the SAP 2000 are illustrated
at the Figure 5.

c. The shear and bending moment diagrams for parts a and b were drawn separately. Figure
6shows the diagrams for part a, while diagrams of part b are illustrated in the Figures 7 and 8

d. For this part the shear and moment diagrams for both a and b parts were constructed using the
SAP2000. Figure 9 illustrate the results for part a, while Figure 10 show the diagrams of part b.

Question 2

a) For this part the diagrams for the beam were drawn. Figures illustrate the calculations and the shear
and moment diagrams.

b) To compare the results the same beam was constructed on the SAP2000. Figure are the shear and
moment diagrams.

c) The deflection and point D was calculated using the Virtual Work. Figure shows the calculations.
