Geography of the United States Portfolio

Directions
Directions: For this portfolio, you will create three maps of your region. The maps
will include a climate map, a political map, and a resource map. Each map should
include pictures or symbols to represent the topic of the map. You may draw or cut
and paste the images onto each map.

Climate Map
The climate map should show what type of climate(s) are in your region. The map
should include images that represent the climate(s) found in this region. For
example, if your region is known for its snowy, cold climate, you might include a
picture of snow or snow-related activities on the map. If your map has multiple
climates, include symbols for each climate.

Political Map
The political map should identify each state and capital in your region. Map images
may include the state flag, symbol, animal, or other identifying characteristic.

Resource Map
The resource map should show three or more resources found in your region. Map
images may include pictures of the resources found in this region.

Creating the Maps

You can create your maps in the following different ways:
∙ If you have a printer, you can print out the map of your region from one of
the following pages. You will need to print three copies: one for the climate
map, one for the political map, and one for the resource map.
∙ If you do not have a printer, you can draw copies of your maps using the
maps on the following pages as your guide.
∙ If your computer has software programs for drawing, you can draw your
maps electronically.
