Pre-AP World History and Geography Last Exam Preparation

Directions: Answer the following questions to the best of your ability. Make sure if you’re not
sure of the answers (or how to answer these type of questions), that you get assistance prior to
taking the Last Exam for Pre-AP World History and Geography (S1).

● The geography portion of your last exam is skill based. That means that the
answers to the questions on the test are in the test, you just need to figure them
out using the resources provided. However, you will have to know the following
to be successful on this exam:
○ Looking at a map of the USA, know which direction is N/E/S/W.
○ Be able to find various locations on a map and determine which direction one
would need to travel in to get from one location to another.
○ Use the title of a map to help identify what the map is depicting
○ Use maps to determine relative locations/distances between places.
○ Read a political graph
○ Use a dot density map to locate the most (densely) populated regions of a
country.
○ Use a symbol map to find the capital of various countries
○ Use a climate map to identify the climate of various regions.
○ Use a choropleth map to locate various phenomena.
○ Use a cartograph to compare a feature
○ Read various charts and graphs to answer questions.
○ View multiple resources and decide which resource best helps you answer a
particular question.
○ Read short passages and use them to answer questions.
○ Summarize the main idea of a reading passage

● The world history portion of your exam is also heavily skill based. There are a
variety of reading passages related to topics discussed. However, it would be
good to make sure you can answer the following:
1. What were the “3 G’s” that summarized the motivation of European Explorers during the
Age of Exploration?
