Appendix 3: Petal Stitch Count Image
Seven rounds have been completed (Standard Petals) in the image below:

The stitch count on an individual petal in the seventh round is shown in the image below.
Note the skipped stitches from the previous round. The stitch either side of the FpHDC is always skipped in the
generic repeat rounds. Also note the location of the ‘middle’ petal stitch.
To construct the next (eighth) round for Standard petals:
First Petal Subsequent Petals (seven)
• SlSt into or join yarn in stitch ‘2’ and then Ch 2 • Skip stitch ‘1’ and HDC in stitch ‘2’
or Standing HDC Stitch (such that stitch ‘1’ is • DC in each of stitches ‘3’ and ‘4’
effectively ‘skipped’) • 3 DC in stitch ‘5’ (middle petal stitch)
• DC in each of stitches ‘3’ and ‘4’ • DC in each of stitches ‘6’ and ‘7’
• 3 DC in stitch ‘5’ (middle petal stitch) • HDC in stitch ‘8’
• DC in each of stitches ‘6’ and ‘7’ • Skip stitch ‘9’ and then FpHDC over stitch ‘10’
• HDC in stitch ‘8’ (Make seven petals in total, as above, and then SlSt
• Skip stitch ‘9’ and then FpHDC over stitch ‘10’ into beg Ch 2/ HDC Standing Stitch.)

Page 13
Appendix 4: *<stitches>* repeat example explained
<stitches> refers to a sequence of stitches (as documented in the instructions). Where this has an asterisk either
side (i.e. *<stitches>*), this is indicative that the stitch sequence that is documented between each of the single
asterisks should be constructed more than once. The repeat instructions will provide the number of additional times
the stitch sequence should be constructed.
Example:
ROUND 4
Ch 3 (which stands for the first DC) and then 3 DC in the next DC. DC in the next DC and then FpDC over the FpDC
from the previous round.
*DC in the next DC, 3 DC in the next DC, DC in the next DC, and then FpDC over the FpDC from the previous round*.
Construct *<stitches>* another eight times.
SlSt into the 3rd chain of the beg Ch 3
(Stitch Count: 50 DC and 10 FpDC.)

This should be interpreted as:

1. Ch 3 (which stands for the first DC).
2. 3 DC in the next DC.
3. DC in the next DC.
4. FpDC over the FpDC from the previous round.
5. *DC in the next DC.
6. 3 DC in the next DC.
7. DC in the next DC.
8. FpDC over the FpDC from the previous round*.
9. Construct Steps 5 to 8 *<stitches>* another eight times.
10. SlSt into the 3rd chain of the beg Ch 3.

So, the *<stitches>* sequence will be constructed once in steps 5 to 8, and then another eight times for the repeat
(in Step 9). Therefore, the stitch sequence is worked a total of nine times (over nine petals).
The stitches in Steps 1 to 4 (construct first petal), and in Step 10 (complete the round), will be constructed once only.

Remember, always:
• First construct the stitches documented before (and up to) the first asterisk. (These stitches will be made only
once, to construct the first petal.)
• Next construct the stitches that are documented between the two asterisks, one time. (These stitches will
construct the second petal.)
• Next follow the repeat instructions that will tell you how many times you need to again construct the stitches
that are documented between the two asterisks. (These stitches will construct the next eight petals.)
• Finally follow the instructions that are documented after the repeat instructions to complete the round. (This
stitch will be made only once, to complete the round.)
