3mm Crochet Hook
Wool Needle (for sewing)
Abbreviations:

ch – chain
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
inc – 2 stitches into next stitch
dec – decrease over next two stitches
sl st – slip stitch
f/o – fasten off by slip stitch in next stitch and pulling end through loop before cutting to
desired length
y/o – yarn over
cl – (y/o, pick up st) x3, y/o, take each stitch individually over last y/o to form single cluster
stitch

Note:

Unless stated work in continuous rounds marking last stitch of each row with a stitch
marker before proceeding with the next.

When stuffing parts make sure that you don’t overstuff them as you don’t want the stuffing
to show through when complete.
Each part should be filled just enough that it can be easily squeezed when pinched firmly.

Body:

Using Stormcloud
Row 1: ch 2, dc 6 into 2nd st from hook (alternatively dc 6 sts into magic ring) (6)
Row 2: inc x6 (12)
Row 3: (dc into next st, inc) x6 (18)
Row 4: (dc into next 2 sts, inc) x5, dc into next 2 sts, dc and cl st into the next st (24)
Rows 5 – 6: dc (24) (2 rows)
Row 7: dc into next 6 sts, ch 5, tr into 3rd st from hook, tr into next st, dc into next st, sl st
into side of dc, dc into next 12 sts, ch 5, tr into 3 rd st from hook, tr into next st, dc into next
st, sl st into side of dc, dc into next 6 sts (24)
Row 8: decx3, push wing down, dec x6, push wing down, dec x3 (12)
Row 9: dc (12)

F/O leaving a short end.

Using Black
Row 10: sl st into dc to right of F/O st, (dc into next st, inc) x6 (18)
Rows 11 – 12: dc (18) (2 rows)
Row 13: (dc into next st, dec) x6 (12)
Stuff body
Row 14: dec x6 (6)

F/O leaving a 30cm end.

Using a running stitch gather opening and pull tight.


Do a couple of small stitches to secure and sew on keyring using small back sts.
DO NOT CUT END

Eyes: (x2)

Using White
Row 1: ch 2, dc 7 into 2nd st from hook (alternatively dc 7 sts into magic ring) sl st to join
(7)

F/O leaving a 15cm end.

Place on head so base of eyes sit level to the top of the Stormcloud row, making sure that
they touch in the middle.
Sew around using small back sts.
Using the black 30cm end from attaching the keychain, thread through the head to centre
of 1st eye.
In black, embroider 2 small back stitches into the centre of eye to form pupil.
Repeat for 2nd eye.
Thread ends through head and cut flush.

Beak and Feet:

Cut Bright Lemon oddment to 50cm in length.


Thread through needle and double up = 2 strands of 25cm.
Thread up through base of body, 2 rows to right of starting circle in line with the wing, and
bring out level to centre base of 1st eye, making sure that you don’t pull through the last
1.5cm of wool.
Sew 2 back sts 1 st in length between the bases of the eyes, (level to Stormcloud join),
catching in the outer edge of each eye at the same time.
Thread back though the body and come out 2 rows to left of starting circle.
Cut the ends to 1cm in length to form feet.
Fray if you wish to make the feet more ragged in appearance.
