A delicious pie that could be use as an oven mitt, trivet, potholder or even play food! Will you
choose a lemon pie, a raspberry pie, a cherry pie, or will you make your own favorite flavor?

Materials
Hook: 4 mm
Yarn: Worsted/Aran cotton, I used DROPS Paris
Estimated yardage: 70 m for the crust, 100 m for the filling
You can use any type of yarn with a matching hook, and easily customized the size of the
pie. I recommend using a hook a size smaller than suggested on the yarn label.
Abbreviations - US Terms
st(s): stitch(s)
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
ss: slip stitch
dc-inc: double crochet increase (two double crochet in the same stitch)
sc-inc: single crochet increase (two single crochet in the same stitch)
dc2tog: double crochet two together
5dc-cluster: 5 dc in the same stitch, holding the last loop of each (6 loops on hook). Yarn
over, pull through all loops, ch1. Counts as a 2 stitch increase (cluster + ch1)
Notes
The pattern is worked in joined rounds.
Ch2 at the beginning of a round does not count as a stitch.
The last stitch is joined to the first with a slip stitch.
The first stitch of the next round is made in the same stitch as
the join.
Pie Filling
To get a bumpy texture, replace all or some of the dc-inc by 5dc-cluster. For the cherry pie (photo
above), I’ve replaced all dc-inc by clusters on round 3, 5, 6, 7 and half of them on round 8.

You could keep increasing in this fashion to make a bigger pie. You could also stop before round 8
for a smaller pie. At this point, you can attach any extra filling decoration, for example the lemon
slice on the lemon pie (see p.4).
Use the tail to go in and out off the last 6 stitches and pull on it to close the circle.
Pie Crust
The start of the crust is worked like the first part of the filling.
We will now make the crust slightly larger, so the filling can fit in it, and work the crust border.
If the filling does not seem to fit after round 9, you can add an extra row of single crochet.

Crust edges
Plain edge: sc all around for 2-3 rows
Small wavy edge (2 stitch repeat): [3sc in current st, skip 1 st, ss in next st] around.
The 3sc are worked in the same stitch as the slip stitch. Every other stitch is skipped.
Wavy edge (3 stitch repeat): [3sc in next st, skip 1 st, ss in next st] around
Baking
Sew the edge of the filling to the pie crust, leaving a gap big enough for your hand. On the crust,
use the row right before the edging. On the filling, use the ”single crochet in back loop only” row.
Leaving the unused front loops visible makes for a nice finish.
You can add a loop to hang your oven mitts. Work 20 to 30 chains and slip stitch back into each
one to get a cord. Sew it close to the hand opening, but not on the opening or the pie won’t hang
nicely.
Flavor variations
Note: The lemon pie and raspberry latticed pie in the pictures are smaller than the cherry pie.
They are 7 dc rows wide instead of 8. That’s because my hands are tiny :)
Lemon slice
Work the lemon slice with a darker yellow and sew it on the filling with white yarn to create the
segments.
Lattice
Work several pieces of foundation double crochet, to fit the size of your pie. Sew each end to the
pie, arranging them in a crisscross pattern. Be mindful not to stitch the hand opening!
For the small latticed pie, I’ve worked 4 times 19 foundation dc and 2 times 23 foundation dc. My
foundation double crochets tend to curve. To fix it, I’ve made them slightly smaller than the pie
and stretched them to size, which straightens the curve.
