GRAPHIC DESIGN ASSIGNMENT

GrandSeal Solutions is introducing a new product to the market. It is basically a competition to a

famous product that is called “M-Seal”.

What is M-Seal?

[1] “M-Seal” consists of 2x chemicals. Each chemical is soft when it’s by itself. However, when the
2x chemicals are combined together, a reaction happens, and after 90 minutes the mixture becomes
extremely hard and tough. This is why “M-Seal” is classified as a “2-part epoxy compound”.

[2] “M-Seal” is used at home by average individuals and at work by maintenance professionals. It
can fix broken things, example a hole in a pipe. It can join different materials together, example
wood, metal, glass, plastic..etc. It has many applications.

[3] “M-Seal” has a good reputation in the market. It is found in almost every hardware store in the
UAE. It is considered a cheap product, selling for almost AED 5 per 1 kit. It is a very fast selling
product and has a lot of demand in stores. It is not an item that sells well online.

Objective

[1] GrandSeal Solutions has a chemical that is similar to “M-Seal”, but it doesn’t have a package
design. Hence, your task is to create a design for the outer package. You are not required to create
a design for the inner sealant packaging. However, if you are interested you can, but it’s not
something mandatory

Criteria

[1] The name of the GrandSeal Solutions product will be called “G-Seal”.

[2] A high resolution logo of GrandSeal Solutions is attached in the email

[3] The main colors of GrandSeal Solutions are white and light blue. Feel free to use an eye dropper
to identify the Hex color for the blue. Below is reference to some existing material of the company

SKILLS IN COMING UP WITH GENUNINE CREATIVE IDEAS AND TAKING THE COMPANY TO A NEW
DIRECTION WILL BE ASSESSED. HENCE, DO NOT USE THE BELOW AS A FRAMEWORK OF WHAT “G-
SEAL” SHOULD BE LIKE. THE BELOW IS JUST AN INSIGHT TO WHAT WE HAVE DONE IN THE PAST,
NOT WHERE WE WANT TO BE IN THE FUTURE

who do hobbies, arts, crafts and DIY projects.
This is a completely different target of clients
compared to the clients of “G-Seal”
-The design has elements of “waves” because
the epoxy is liquid, and it can be mixed with
pigments. It is different from “G-Seal” which
will symbolize toughness and durability

[6] Be careful and smart when choosing the color palette for “G-Seal”. The main reason is that “M-
Seal” has sister products. We do not want consumers to think that “G-Seal” is just another variation
of “M-Seal”. Also, we do not want “M-Seal” to think that we are copying their designs and get in
trouble with them.

[5] “G-Seal” will have no marketing at all. It will not be promoted on the company’s social media
accounts. It will not be promoted by influencers either. The product will only be sold in the stores.
“G-Seal” will be placed besides “M-Seal” on the shelf and compete with it. Hence, all the importance
will be placed on the design of the package! The package should attract clients to pick “G-Seal”
instead of “M-Seal”! The design should give a feeling to the client that “G-Seal” is modern, trendy,
technologically advanced, sharp, rigid, durable, stronger, tougher, easier to use, clearer instructions
for new users, versatile, has more uses, and is more trustworthy than “M-Seal”!

[6] There are other products in the market that are similar to “M-Seal”, but not as popular. If you
search for the term “epoxy putty”, you will get many examples, like the ones below. Please only use
these to get an idea about the industry, but not necessarily to get ideas about the design.

IMPORTANT NOTE: THE DIMENSIONS OF THE PACKAGE OF “G-SEAL” WILL BE THE SAME AS THE
ABOVE “M-SEAL”, IN OTHER WORDS W 5cm x H 8cm X D 3cm. “G-SEAL” WILL ALSO BE 120G IN
WEIGHT. THE PACKAGE WILL HAVE “VERTICAL ORIENTATION”, JUST LIKE ABOVE. IN THE VIDEO
LINKS PRESENTED BEFORE, IT SHOWS THE PACKAGES IN “HORIZONTAL ORIENTATION”, PLEASE
DISREGARD THIS TYPE OF ORIENTATION. “G-SEAL” WILL BE MANUFACTURERED IN THE UAE. THE
ADDITIONAL CONTENT THAT SHOULD GO ON THE PACKAGE WILL NOT BE PROVIDED. YOU NEED
TO IMPROVISE BASED ON THE LIMITED INFORMATION GIVEN OR DO SOME RESEARCH. THE
ABILITY TO CREATE CONTENT IS PART OF THIS ASSESSMENT. YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPLICATE
THE “FORMULA” OF THE ABOVE PACKAGE. PLEASE UNLEASH YOUR CREATIVY AND MAKE GOOD
JUDGEMENT.
Delivery

[1] Only 1 design is required. However, if you believe that you have really good ideas, and a bit
hesitant which one is the best, you may submit additional designs. The maximum number of designs
allowed to be submitted is 3. Kindly note that more quantity doesn’t mean that you will stand out
more. Quality is more important than quantity.

[2] The finished art work of the package needs to be submitted in PDF format. The word “finished”
means that it can be submitted straight to a print shop with die cutting lines. The print shop will
then go ahead and mass print it on cardboard paper, cut it, glue it, and fold. You will assume that
there will be no communication between the print shop and yourself. In other words, your work
needs to be professional-grade and print-ready without any outside interference.

[3] A maximum of 7x mockups need to be submitted. Below is a sample of what a mockup is. If you
can deliver the message in less than 7x mockups, that is fine. The mockups need to have white
background. They need to be from different angles and show the content of different sides of the
package properly. The mockups need to be in JPG/JPEG format. Else, they can be converted into a
PDF with multiple pages.

[4] Create 3x static Instagram Posts, to promote the product

[5] Create 1x dynamic video Instagram Reel, that is 5-10 seconds long, to promote the product

[6] Please submit all RAW files, including but not limited to Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop..etc. These
files will be opened to check for technicalities (ex proper layering, grouping ..etc)

[7] Please send high resolution files. If email attachment is not suitable, then please use
“WeTransfer” and forward the link via email

[8] You are not allowed to ask us questions regarding this assignment. That includes all
communication channels like WhatsApp, Email, Phone…etc. Even if there was critical information
missing. Part of the assessment is evaluating how you manage a project under limited access to
resources.

[9] Enjoy the process! There is no “right” or “wrong” design. This is an opportunity for you to get a
taste of the type of projects that you will be dealing with at GrandSeal Solutions, and an opportunity
for us to evaluate your creativity and artistic touch.
