PROFESSIONAL CV
Who We Are?
ATS was founded in 1994 in Beirut-Lebanon
- It outlines your academic and professional history which can help you land jobs.
There are many CV types but here is the 3 most commonly used
- Chronological (traditional) CV
- Combination CV
Chronological CV:
It is structured as following:
- Contact information
- Professional experience
- Academic history
- Qualifications and skills
Functional CV:
It is a type of CV in which
you highlight your Skills
and qualifications more
than work history. It is
useful when you try to
change your field and
you don’t have any
relevant experience or if
you are a fresh graduate.
It is structured as
following:
- Contact information
- Qualifications and skills
- Professional experience
- Academic history
Combination cv:
It is a mix between
chronological and
functional. It doesn’t
differ in its structure
from the chronological.
The only difference is
in the way of listing
your professional
experiences and skills.
The most relevant and
important are added
first. It might make the
CV longer than usual.
How to write my CV
step by step
1. Choosing the Resume Layout
2. Add your contact information :
Resume Objective = Who you are + What you want + What you bring to the table
It consists of two or three sentences that give the recruiter brief of your relevant experience and
achievements. First start with your title and years of experience then pick 2 or 3 of your most impressive
accomplishment and describe them in a few words as possible.
Example #2:
4. Work History:
- Job title: This should go at the very top of each work history entry so that it's easy for potential
employers to scan and find. Make it bold or increase the font size by 1pt or 2pts from the rest of the
entry.
- Company name, Location: In the second line, include the previous employer's company name and the
location you worked at.
- Dates employed : Thirdly, put the dates of your employment there. You should add the month and the
year.
- Key responsibilities: List some tasks you did in your job history and focus on the few duties most
relevant to the new job.
You can list your work history as the following:
- Start with the most recent position and go back from there.
- Use Bullet points to introduce a new line. Five to six, including the key achievement, is the
maximum.
- Use Active Voice Instead of Passive Voice as following:
Work Experience Template for example:
Title 1
Company, City
Start Date-End Date
Job description
(Most recent work experience)
Title 2
Company, City
Start Date-End Date
Job description
(Second most recent work experience)
Title 3
Company, City
Start Date-End Date
Job description
(Third most recent work experience)
5. Education:
- Degree
- University: Add the name and location.
- Dates attended: List your dates of attendance, mentioning the month and the year.
- Completed credits if your education is unfinished.
- Your major to exhibit your knowledge of the subject matter.
- Key Accomplishments.
6. Skills:
When listing your skills in your CV, make sure to include the skills that are actually relevant for the
role you’re applying for.
If you’re looking to be part of an Engineering team, talking about your expertise in accounting &
bookkeeping won’t impress the recruiter.
Focus only on the skills required in the job ad, and other ones directly related to the position.
- Include any professional certification, workshops, or training programs that enhance your
qualification.
- Specify the issuing institutions, date of completion and the skills or knowledge acquired.
Tips:
- Avoid using a multiple colors in your CV or write anything in a red color. Try to make it in black
and white.
- Use a formal text font which is clean and easy to read like Arial or Times New Roman; avoid
stylized fonts
- Make your name and section headers bold or in a slightly bigger font size (no more than 14
points).
- Use bullet points when listing several different pieces of information, like under your
professional history sections.
- Regarding hobbies and interests, don’t write your hobbies like I love swimming or I love eating…etc. ,
you can only add this section if your hobbies or interests are relevant to el job your are applying to .
-Do not include more than 3-5 entries in your CV skills section as you need to dedicate the largest
chunk of your CV to your education, work experience and qualifications.
- Do not put your references, a statement testifying that the resume is accurate, or say “references
available upon request.” An employer should only ask for references if they’ve offered you the job.
- If you will put a photo, make sure it’s professionally shot and on a one-color background.
- Don’t mention any personnel details as gender orientation, religious beliefs, political affiliation.
- If you are a fresh graduate , try to keep your CV under one page.
When you finished your CV , follow these steps before sending it:
*Here are the 5 steps you need to take when writing the body mail:
- Greet the hiring manager. Something like “Dear Hiring Manager Name” will do.
- Mention 2-3 of your best achievements.
- Talk about what makes you the perfect candidate for the position
- End it with a formal salutation, such as “Sincerely, name”.
Thank You
