7gorean - Prehistoric and the Ancient - Pythagorean Theorem

INTRO
A pleasant afternoon, I am Christina Sescon, along with my partner Yshey Endozo
and we are 7gorean. And the topic that we will be discussing is all about the
Pythagorean theorem.

I guess we’re all familiar with the formula 𝑎 + 𝑏 = 𝑐 . The Pythagorean theorem is a
useful way to demonstrate the relationship between the Pythagoras triples or what
we call the three sides of a right-angled triangle.

By using this formula, we are able to calculate the length of an unknown side and the
angle of a given triangle. Variety of situations, including trigonometry and other
mathematical ideas also use the concept of Pythagorean theorem

WHEN
The theorem was known to exist first during ancient Egyptian time (about 2500
BCE) and Babylonian time (about 1800 BCE). In this period, the theorem was
unclear until Baudhayana Sulba of India mentioned it around 800 BCE to 600 BCE.
However, there is still a lack of information to prove it. Only around 570 BCE to 490
BCE when the theorem was created by Pythagoras.

Later in that time, Babylonians created rules for these triples. With their ancient
clay tablets, they gain an understanding about the relationship between the
sides of a right-angled triangle. The Pythagoras triples, which are integers A, B,
and C satisfying the equation A square + B square equals C square, are two of
the three numbers listed in the table on that little clay tablet, which includes a
total of 15 rows and 4 columns of numbers. Babylonians also use this to solve the
hypotenuse of a triangle which leads them to the idea of how to calculate square
roots. This tablet shows that they already had knowledge of the theorem but
again, no written statement was presented.

Lastly, Pythagoras of Samos further proves the idea by geometric illustrations

and calculations. At the end, he ended up with a statement of “In a right triangle,
the square of the hypotenuse side is equal to the sum of squares of the other
two sides. And the sides of this triangle are named as perpendicular, base, and
hypotenuse.”
