OVERVIEW The general purpose of this lesson is the creation and formatting of data entry
forms in order to manipulate records in a database table.

Lesson description Students can use Form Wizard if they want to create a form from one or more
tables or queries Using Form Wizard students become more selective about what
fields appear on their form and they can define how the data is grouped and sorted.
• Students can type records into a table in the Data Sheet view. But this method is
not suitable if students have lots of data it is preferable to create a form and then
enter data into the form. When they submit the form, the data is automatically
inserted into their table. If students delete a record from the form the record will be
deleted from the table too.
Students can use a combo box when they want to select a value from a preexisting
list or type their own value. A combo box is a text box with a list attached to it. This
list is hidden until the student clicks the arrow next to the box In a form we can
include as many fields as we
want. The fields that aren't included in a form are blank in the database after their
insertion. Only the AutoNumber fields are filled in automatically. So, advise
students to include all the fields in a form except the "IDs" fields.
In a form, when we press Tab the cursor moves to the next field. The order of the
fields is defined by the table. Sometimes students drag a field in a form so when
they press Tab the cursor moves
regularly In a form, each field or label has its own properties. If students change a
selected field or label, then only the selected fields would change
LESSON DESCRIPTION
A. Preparation Make sure that the file "Computer Store.odb" is saved in Documents
on each computer (from the previous lesson). If it isn't, copy and paste it.
B. Start - Development of knowledge At the beginning of the lesson, discuss how to
insert data into a database.
Mention that they created some database tables in the previous lesson, but they
didn't insert information the tables are empty!
Hand out the "K6.42 Worksheet 1.docx and ask them to read the first page. Here,
students will understand the purpose of a form and how easy it is to insert
information into one which is well-
designed Ask some questions such as: o How can we fill tables in with data?
o Do we insert data in columns or in rows? o Is it easier to insert records into a
table, rather
than a form?
• Also, ask students if they recognize an item that helps them understand the
record's field and what kind it is (label). At this point, mention the use of labels in a
database. They help us add data
to a database simply and easily
- Students can suggest any changes to the form and you can note them down on
the whiteboard.
C. Implementation
- Students have to insert some records into a database table by creating a new
form: o They must include all the fields except the first. -They must insert a label
and format it
a They must change the Layout of the form. •In the last part of the activity, students
have to insert some records in order to complete the database (Student's Book,
page 67). They will realize the basic aim of this lesson, which is the existence of a
form which is appropriate for adding information to a database. Your role is
supportive. Advise students that when typing
