Lidepla Word Selection Guidelines

Pool 1
Mandarin, Russian
Western European Subpool
English, Spanish, French, German,
Portuguese, Italian
Indian Ocean Subpool
Hindi-Urdu, Arabic, Indonesian, Swahili
Pool 2
Japanese, Turkish, Pashto, Persian
Word Selection
Step 1
If half or more of Pool 1 uses a compound, then
create a compound within Lidepla. Otherwise,
proceed to Step 2.
Step 2
a If all languages in the Western European
Subpool (allowing one exception) and at
least one other language from Pool 1 use
similar forms for the same concept, select
this form. Otherwise, proceed to Step 2b.
b Repeat Step 2a with the Indian Ocean
Subpool. Otherwise, proceed to Step 3.
Step 3
Discard all forms from Pool 1 which are longer
than two syllables, have three consecutive
consonants, or do not fit into Lidepla. Select the
shortest remaining form. If there are no
remaining forms, proceed to Step 4.
Step 4
a Repeat Step 3 with Pool 2. If there are no
remaining forms, proceed to Step 4b.
b Select all forms from Pool 1 and Pool 2
which are three syllables. Discard all forms
which do not fit into Lidepla. Select the
remaining form with the least consonant
clusters. If there are no remaining forms,
proceed to Step 5.
Step 5
Seek a solution outside the source languages.
