WHAT IS AN INFORMATIONAL TEXT? AND THE


PURPOSE

Meaning: informational text is a type of nonfictional text in which contains information about
a topic.

Purpose: to inform or to expand one’s knowledge on a topic.


TEXT FEATURES
Informational text uses text features and visual features to help the reader learn new
information easily.
There are two ways this information can be presented:
1: text features,
written features that allow the reader to stay focused and it organizes the text. These include:
Pronunciation guide- Headings and subheadings – Captions – sidebars – index – glossary and
table of content.
Visual features:
Drawings or graphics that help show imagery or processes. This includes
Photographs – illustrations – charts – diagrams – maps.
