Course Description:

A study of the aspects of second language

teaching, particularly English as a Second Language
(ESL) theories, needs assessment, syllabus design,
materials evaluation and development in Reading,
Writing, Speaking, Listening , and other classroom
MAELS 703 methodologies for the Filipino teacher of English.
TESL: This is concerned with content and methodology in
An Overview teaching reading, writing, speaking and listening as
macro-skills in the communication process. Major
problems arising from teaching practices will be
dealt with in the light of current trends and new
directions
 At the end of the course, the student will be able
to:
• gain an understanding of learning theories and
concepts as applied to the teaching and

• discover his/her needs and translate these
