“Mga Tala ng Aking Buhay”

by Gregoria de Jesus

Findings:

The author of "Mga tala ng Aking Buhay" was Gregoria de Jesus, commonly
known as "Oriang," who had been married to the late Philippine icon
Andres Bonifacio before getting remarried to Katipunan composer Julio
Nakpil. She was renowned as the "Lakambini (Muse)" of the KKK (Kataas-
taasang Kagalang-galangan Katipunan) ng mga Anak ng Bayan" during the
Spanish colonization. She was born on May 9, 1875, in Caloocan. It was
written on November 5, 1928, and it was published in the Filipino
Magazine's June 1930 issue.

Observations:

Her work's primary goal, according to her biography, is to describe and

educate the public, particularly Filipinos, about her experiences during
the KKK (Kataas-taasang Kagalang-galangan Katipunan) ng mga Anak ng
Bayan's revolt against Spanish colonialism. They should also comprehend
their history, the fortitude of their predecessors, and the suffering
they underwent in order for the Philippines to gain freedom.

Analysis:
During the Philippine Revolution, Georgina de Jesus and the other
Katipuneros faced off against the Spanish colonizers, and she describes
these battles in her autobiography. Nevertheless, there are a few
disagreements. Although the author stressed that not everyone in the
Philippines was determined to put their lives on the line in favor to
achieve independence upon entering the KKK and gaining the nickname
"Lakambini ng Katipunan," where she engaged in combat but ultimately saw
others turn their backs on her, the Philippines was known for its rich
culture and history. At the time, the majority of Filipinos favored
independence from the Spanish.Oriang done her best to carry out her
husband's job; the Katipunan's valuables, including as the revolver and
other weapons, the seals, and all the paperwork, were in her care, and
she had them whenever the civil guards were on rounds, as she said in
her autobiography.Nevertheless, despite her risky job. Oriang was never
one to turn her back on her compatriots. The individuals she thought of
as friends deserted her when she needed them. She was saddened by this
since it demonstrated that even while they were Filipino and shared her
goals, they were still willing to exclude you from their schemes. Oriang
fought and endured until the very end. She participated in the
revolution. In an effort to ensure that the ideals she and the Katipunan
bore would be passed down to the current generation and help us
accomplish what we have now, she upheld her beliefs by delivering the
Katipunan Decalogue. The Katipuneros' efforts would be fruitless and
unsuccessful without Gregoria de Jesus since other Filipinos would not
become aware of them. During that time, Since women were frequently
perceived as being helpless or unable to assist in such circumstances,
she also gave them authority in those instances. She has shown that
there is always a strong woman in the background of every successful
man.
