ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Assignment Components
The assignments available in SimChart for the Medical Office have been authored
and peer-reviewed by medical assisting instructors. An assignment is comprised of
a description, objectives, competencies, a simulation exercise, and quiz questions.

»» Access assignments after logging in to SimChart for the Medical

Office through Evolve. All assignments are located in the Open Assignments
tab of the Info Panel. Click the assignment title to enter and view the
components of an assignment.

»» The Description tab displays the objectives and description for an assignment.
You can also enter the simulation portion of an assignment from within this tab
by clicking the Start Assignment button at the bottom of the screen.

»» The Competencies tab lists the competencies tied to the assignment, including
competency name, accrediting body, and competency number. Competencies
addressed in the simulation are reinforced with quiz questions. Since some
competencies speak to general practices, the application incorporates quiz
questions that address general best practices any medical office should adopt.

»» The Quiz tab contains review questions that complement the concepts
addressed in the simulation exercise. The Submit Assignment button remains
disabled until you answer all of the questions. As mentioned above, quiz
questions address general best practices any medical office should adopt.

»» The Additional Resources tab lists additional content such as texts or articles
to refer to when completing an assignment. If there are no resources listed,
none have been provided.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Assignment Reattempts
If you are disappointed with your simulation work and your instructor lets you start
over or your instructor believes that retaking an assignment would benefit your
development, your instructor can allow you to reattempt a submitted assignment.

If an instructor has moved an assignment to reattempt mode, that assignment

moves back to the Open Assignments tab with a status of REATTEMPT.

»» Before reattempting an assignment, review the Description and

Competencies tabs to ensure that you understand what tasks you are
expected to perform within the assignment.

»» Click the View Assignment Description link at the top of the screen to display
the assignment information.

»» When you finish documenting in the EHR, click the Back to Assignment link to
the left of the View Assignment Description link. Click the Submit
Assignment button to submit your reattempted assignment.

The quiz portion of an assignment is not included in an assignment reattempt.

The resubmitted assignment moves back to the Graded Assignments tab. Your
grade will remain the same as your previous attempt until your instructor reviews
your reattempted simulation work and adjusted your grade. Final grades appear in
bold within the Grade column.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Student Workflow
»» Students should review the Description and Competency tabs before clicking
the Start Assignment button to begin the simulation portion of an assignment.
Within the simulation, clicking the View Assignment Description link displays
the assignment description in case you need a reminder. Once you complete
the simulation portion, clicking the Back to Assignment link returns to the
assignment overview.

»» Next, answer all of the questions before clicking the Submit Assignment
button in the Quiz tab. Review questions for each assignment generate an
automatic initial grade an instructor can approve or adjust after reviewing a
student’s simulation work. Although the auto-graded assignment is immediately
available for your review from within the Graded Assignments tab, an
instructor can still modify this grade, so you should understand that this
automatically generated grade is not final. Final grades are displayed in bold in
the Graded Assignments tab.

1. Review Description and Competencies tabs.
2. Click the Start Assignment button within the Description tab.
3. Complete the simulation work.
4. Click the Back to Assignment button.
