FP003 - SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

EVALUATION

The student has three opportunities to pass the subject (Ordinary call, Resit 1 and Resit 2).
The following contains information on each call. Please read the following document
carefully.

ORDINARY CALL:

The subject’s evaluation includes the following evaluation activities:

EVALUATION ACTIVITIES PERCENTAGE OF THE FINAL GRADE

Practice Activity 20 %
Assignment 60 %
Exam 20 %

It is mandatory to complete all the activities to pass the subject. The minimum passing
grade is 7/10. Besides, if a student has received a passing grade in the subject, they are not
allowed to resubmit evaluation activities for a better grade.

Grading scale

The subject is evaluated in the virtual campus (VC) based on a scale that goes from 0 to 10,
with a minimum passing grade of 7/10. The studies in Teaching English as a Foreign
Language are part of an interuniversity program that is offered by several universities.
When the student enrolls, they choose the university by which they will obtain the degree.
If that institution follows a different evaluation scale, the grades obtained in the VC by the
student will be adapted through a process of internal conversion to the university’s
evaluation scale and published in the student’s record (PANAL). This means that, for
example, if a student obtains 7/10 in the campus but they are enrolled in a university where
the minimum passing grade is 8/10, the student’s record (PANAL) will show 8/10.

Access to submit practice activity, assignment and test in the VC

Access to submit the evaluation activites in the VC is not permanently open.

Students must submit evaluation activities on the official date of delivery (the day indicated
in the academic calendar). However, the submission access in VC opens three days before
that date for those students who want to submit earlier.

Access is kept open a few days longer, but only for those students who have been granted
an extension by the professor. Evaluation activities that are submitted after the deadline
without this extension (extraordinary authorization by the professor granted in advance)
will not be evaluated.

Practice Activity (individually, 20% of the final grade):

Practice activities are a series of brief reflection exercises that must be answered
individually. To know what the activities consist of, see the “Practice Activity” icon available
in the subject’s “Evaluation” section. In order to submit the Practice Activities, follow these
steps:

1. Click the “Practice Activity” icon (available in the subject’s “Evaluation” section).

2. Next, click “Attempt quiz now” and “Start attempt”. We recommend that the students
only click this button if they are very sure that they are academically prepared to do the
tasks, have enough time to complete them, and feel under the best possible conditions.
After the click, all tasks are uploaded and students can begin to answer.

After answering all the tasks, the student must click on the “Next” button to submit the
activities and will immediately see the status of all the questions (answer, saved or not yet
answered). The student must make sure that they have answered all tasks. It is still possible
to modify answers at this point. When the student is sure that the tasks are finished, they
must click on the “Submit all and finish” button (the system will require confirmation).
ATTENTION: If you do not click on the “Submit all and finish” button, the practice activity
will not be sent, and therefore, it will not count as being submitted (with all the academic
consequences this might imply).

We do not recommended abandoning the practice activity before finishing it. However, if a
student must stop for a while, they must check that all answers have been correctly saved.
It is possible to check this in the “Quiz navigation” menu, on the top left side of the screen.
Questions with a grey-like shadow have been answered and saved.

To resume the practice activity, go to the icon, and click “Continue the last attempt”.

The evaluation of these activities will mainly take into account their realization and that
their content is relevant and responds to what is requested.

Assignment in pairs (60% of the final grade):

The assignment for this subject must be completed in pairs (2 people). Only those students
who have justified extraordinary circumstances to the professor may do the assignment
individually. If a student hands in an assignment individually without the professor’s
approval, a penalty on the mark will apply: the maximum grade in that case will be 8/10. The
ability to work in groups is one of the general skills developed in the program.

Details of the assignment are provided in the “Assignment” template available in the
subject’s “Evaluation” section and in the instructions sent to the forum by the teacher. The
assignment must respect all the formal requirements detailed in the template. In order to
submit the assignment, follow these steps:

1. Click the “Assignment” icon (available in the subject’s “Evaluation” section).

2. Click the “Add submission” button found in the lower central part.

3. Next, drag and drop the assignment’s file in “You can drag and drop files to add them”
space (in the “File submissions” section).

4. Once the assignment has uploaded, click on “Save changes”.

All group members have to submit the assignment.

The grading of this activity will follow this evaluation grid:

Test-type exam (20% of the final grade):

The test is located in the Evaluation section of the subject, within the Test icon, and
students must answer in 3 consecutive hours. Once this time expires, access to the test
closes.

In order to take the test, follow these steps:

1. Click the “Exam” icon (available in the subject’s “Evaluation” section).

2. Click on “Me comprometo a completar la evaluación con aportaciones originales y propias,

sin cometer plagio”. By activating this plagiarism disclaimer, you declare that all the work
you might attach to the test is fully yours and does not rely on uncited sources.

3. Next, click “Attempt quiz now” and “Start attempt”. We recommend that the students
only click this button if they are very sure that they are academically prepared to answer the
questions, have enough time to complete them, and feel under the best possible
conditions. After the click, all 11 questions are uploaded and students can begin to answer.
Then, the three consecutive hours starts counting. The time counter is available under the
left side navigation menu by the questionnaire.

The answer saves automatically when the student clicks on the answer they believe to be
correct. After answering all the questions, the student must click on the “Next” button to
submit the test and will immediately see the status of all the questions (answer, saved or
not yet answered). The student must make sure that they have answered all questions. It is
still possible to modify answers at this point. When the student is sure that the test is
finished, they must click on the “Submit all and finish” button (the system will require
confirmation).
ATTENTION: If you do not click on the “Submit all and finish” button, the test will not be
sent, and therefore, it will not count as being submitted (with all the academic
consequences this might imply).

We do not recommended abandoning the test before finishing it. However, if a student
must stop for a while, they must check that all answers have been correctly saved. It is
possible to check this in the “Quiz navigation” menu, on the top left side of the screen.
Questions with a grey-like shadow have been answered and saved.

On the other hand, remember that time keeps running even if you exit the exam. To resume
the test, go to the Exam icon, and click “Continue the last attempt”.
