Problem 1.72
Problem 1.78

The "Easy" solution

A less general (and in some ways, less correct) solution is to assume, from the
beginning of the solution, that the spring is at equilibrium when the angle is 0. In
other words, we are assuming that the moment resulting from the spring and gravity
cancel each other when the bar is "flat".

If we do that, we can ignore gravity throughout the problem.

Problem 1.78 (cont.)
The harder, more-general solution
Here, we don't assume a "flat" bar is equilibrium, and instead work from a general equilibrium
angle. This is the more general solution (and, in some ways, more correct), but it's more difficult.

From here, we have to linearize and get the linearized natural frequency.
From here, we have to linearize and get the linearized natural frequency.

Problem 1.111
Problem 1.112

This is a good candidate for Lagrange's Method. It will

allow us to ignore the reaction forces at the pin.
Let's also assume small angles and that the equilibrium angle of the bar is zero.
Problem 1.112 (cont.)
Problem 2.1
Problem 2.9

This problem gives us a relationship between the input and output amplitude
and phase. The transfer function expresses that as well, so we'll use it to
determine the parameters we need.

We also know that at static displacement, the system is at equilibrium. The

spring force and gravity are balancing.
