1 . Finishing Touches 1-2 min

Have The Feedback Song playing as students enter your classroom.

Take attendance, if needed.
Review what was covered in last session, and objectives for this session.

Hint: To get the fastest internet speeds, preview all your screens ahead of time so they are
pre-loaded in your computer and close all open windows except for Quaver.

2 . Good Speeches, Bad Speeches 3-6 min

This entire lesson should involve student groups adding finishing touches to their
routines.
In addition, each busking routine requires one member of the group to
introduce/present the players and the individual ostinato patterns before the
performance begins.
Learn about good presentation methods by listening to good speeches and bad
speeches.
Discuss confidence, slowing down, and clarity when presenting and performing.
Use the DRAW tool to rate each speech!
Reemphasize the importance of teamwork, fun, and groups doing their best when
performing.

3 . Finishing Touches Checklist 5-10 min

Emphasize that today is the dress rehearsal.

Guide students through the checklist.
Allow time for final rehearsals and to complete the notation part of the project.
(page 11)
Remind students that practice is doing something over and over until there are no
mistakes, not just doing it once without a mistake.

4 . Feedback Sandwich
Before beginning the dress rehearsal, introduce students to the Feedback Sandwich,
a tool that will help them with constructive criticism.
Click on Example to give students an idea of how the Feedback Sandwich works.
Select Evaluation Starters for those who may need a little help.

5 . Busking Project Dress Rehearsal 20-24 min

Before beginning, briefly discuss appropriate audience behavior as groups watch

and listen to each other perform.
Then have groups perform their routines in front of one another.
Give students time to write evaluation comments in page 12 of their project book
based on the evaluation criteria (slide 2).
Remind students to remember the "Feedback Sandwich!"
Allow students to present their feedback on each performance.
Note: Videotaping each performance is a great way for groups to self-reflect and self-
evaluate. It is also important to emphasize a forgiving and fun atmosphere where
making a mistake is OK.

7 . Busking Project Dress Rehearsal 14-20 min

Give an opportunity for students to self-evaluate their performance by watching their video
and performing again.

Discuss with students how performance nerves helped or hindered their

performances.
Invite groups to perform again in front of the group (getting used to nervousness is
an important lesson).
Watch the video footage of each performance so students can watch themselves.
Note: It is important to emphasize a forgiving and fun atmosphere where failing is
OK.

8 . Busking Video Routines 5-8 min

Watch the Busking Video Routines again to review examples of good performance
techniques.

Discuss what they can do as a group to further enhance their presentations.

Give time for students to decorate their instruments, plan out costumes, design
props, and discuss final touches.

9 . Creating Flyers For the Show 10-16 min

Invite students to join with the art department of the school to design and create flyers and
tickets for the show.

Invite each student to create a flyer advertising the "busking show." (See page 14 in
project book.)
Look at the screen and discuss the relevant and important information that needs to
be on a flyer.
This can be a computer-designed or hand-drawn portion of the project.
In addition, select a student to be the emcee of the event, who will welcome the
audience and introduce the acts (and perhaps tell a joke or two!!)
Note: Each student's flyer design can be used (given to their family and friends) or
one of students' designs may be selected as the best flyer to represent the group
and be reproduced for students to give to family and friends.

Busking Flyer Example can be downloaded from Worksheets.

10 . Choosing Busking Instruments 3-4 min

Enhance students understanding of the logistics of outside performance.

Some students may wish to set up a street performing/busking team after the
project is finished.
Discuss some of the practicalities/logistics of different busking instrument choices.
Busking generally uses instruments that can be easily transported.
Play the five audio track selections.
Discuss with students which ones would be better suited for busking and why.
Analyze the logistics of street performing and how the props and instruments used
in busking tend to be portable.
