Activity 2.1.: Select an emergency scenario, perform and create a video simulation on how to address
the situation. (Portfolio)
Activity 4.1.: Search and cite 1 Hospitality and Tourism Industry mass panic scenario and proper way of
controlling this emergency. (Portfolio)
- Fire is the most common emergency situation which could break in the hotel at any point in
time. The most probable reason for a fire break in the hotels can be a kitchen or faulty wirings in
the hotel. The concerned staff should be immediately informed and fire brigade should be
informed immediately.
How to handle emergency situations
If a Fire Starts:
 Know how to safely operate a fire extinguisher
 Remember to GET OUT, STAY OUT and CALL 9-1-1 or your local emergency phone number.
 Yell "Fire!" several times and go outside right away. If you live in a building with elevators, use
the stairs. Leave all your things where they are and save yourself.
 If closed doors or handles are warm or smoke blocks your primary escape route, use your
second way out. Never open doors that are warm to the touch.
 If you must escape through smoke, get low and go under the smoke to your exit. Close doors
behind you.
 If smoke, heat or flames block your exit routes, stay in the room with doors closed. Place a wet
towel under the door and call the fire department or 9-1-1. Open a window and wave a brightly
colored cloth or flashlight to signal for help.
 Once you are outside, go to your meeting place and then send one person to call the fire
department. If you cannot get to your meeting place, follow your family emergency
communication plan.
If your clothes catch on fire:
 Stop what you’re doing.
 Drop to the ground and cover your face if you can.
 Roll over and over or back and forth until the flames go out. Running will only make the fire burn
faster.
Once the flames are out, cool the burned skin with water for three to five minutes. Call for medical
attention.

EVALUATION
ESSAY: DIRECTION: Answer each question comprehensively, concisely and creatively concerning Crowd
and Crisis Management in 200 words supported with the books and readings in APA FORMAT. AVOID
ERASURES! (40 points)
Activity 1.2. What is the significance of Crowd and Crisis Management in the Hospitality and Tourism
Industry?
- The significance of crowd and crisis management in hospitality and management is that tourism
crisis management entails developing measures, plans, and manuals to promptly respond to
disaster events in an adequate way to minimize the negative impact on visitors and the tourism
industry. Crowd and crisis management is a big help to the hospitality industry when plans are
structured in a way that helps to standardise and prioritise the actions requested to promptly
respond to natural or man-made disasters. They comprehend different catastrophic scenarios
and the related strategies that need to be implemented to minimize the impacts.
Activity 2.2.: Discuss and cite the optimistic view of obtaining the different approaches in crowd and
crisis management?
- In managing an emergency on board a passenger ship, effective crowd and crisis management is
essential. Due to the added risk posed by passengers, passenger vessels encounter more
difficulties during an emergency than other vessel types, so crew members must be more
watchful and aware of the dangers they may be exposed to. Understanding the duties and
regulations of the crew and the passengers separately is first important to control behavior in a
crisis.

Activity 5.3.: Discuss the Occupational Health and Safety. Why is it important to crowd and crisis
management?
- The occupational health and safety (OHS) standards mandate the reduction, removal, or
replacement of job site hazards. OHS programs also help minimize the effects of such hazards.
Occupational health and safety considerably benefit the company, as healthy employees are
guaranteed to be more productive. OHS is important to crowd and crisis management because,
first and foremost, effective crowd management helps to ensure the safety of those at an event,
from the guests to the staff and the performers. When an event is taking place, everyone in the
venue should be able to enjoy themselves without worrying about their safety.

VIII. ASSIGNMENT
Activity 3.1.: Interview and make video presentation at least 5 persons on how they can handle specific
emergency situations and compare it to the proper way of managing and controlling those emergencies.
(Portfolio)
Activity 5.1.: Select, create and lay out a captioned building plan with healthy and safety workplace.
(Portfolio)
- We all know that laying out a building plan is not easy, especially since I’m a HM student. How
you layout your work area will determine the safety and efficiency of your people. The layout
and design of a workspace will determine the flow of people, materials, and equipment. Layout
planning is deciding on the best and most efficient arrangement of all physical resources that
will need space in a work area or a facility. It can include desks, work centres, cabinets,
equipment, and various types of machinery. Layout planning is not only done when a new work
area or facility is designed; it is also necessary when there is a change in the needs or placement
of resources.
Activity 5.2.: Summarized the subject Crowd and control management in HTI (Format will be given by
your Instructor). (Portfolio)

Crowd and Crisis Management with OHS

In this subject, the topic is all about Introduction to Crowd and Crisis Management in Hospitality
and Tourism Industry, Approaches to Crowd and Crisis Control in Hospitality and Tourism Industry,
Knowledge and Skills Required by Staff for Crowd and Crisis Control in Hospitality and Tourism Industry,
Response to Mass Panic in Hospitality and Tourism Industry, Occupational Health and Safety in
Hospitality and Tourism Industry.
Developing crowd and crisis management and crowd and crisis control plans will help protect
company and employees as well as the public. By reviewing legal case stakeholders can develop a better
understanding of what both the public and law expects from them in terms of protecting their guests.
Thus, creating plans with an eye toward these legal issues, stakeholders may avoid legal liability and
other negative implications. Through effective planning and organization, they will achieve financially
successful business. An emergency is a situation that poses an immediate risk to health, life, property, or
environment. Most emergencies require urgent intervention to prevent a worsening of the situation,
although in some situations, mitigation may not be possible and agencies may only be able to offer
palliative care for the aftermath. The worst possible case for crowd psychology and crowd actions is
mass panic. If mass panic does occur, the situation becomes almost impossible to control or resolve,
meaning that crowd control has completely failed.
As defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) "occupational health deals with all aspects of
health and safety in the workplace and has a strong focus on primary prevention of hazards. “Health has
been defined as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence
of disease or infirmity. “Occupational health is a multidisciplinary field of healthcare concerned with
enabling an individual to undertake their occupation, in the way that causes least harm to their health. It
aligns with the promotion of health and safety at work, which is concerned with preventing harm from
hazards in the workplace. "The main focus in occupational health is on three different objectives: the
maintenance and promotion of workers’ health and working capacity; the improvement of working
environment and work to become conducive to safety and health and development of work
organizations and working cultures in a direction which supports health and safety at work and in doing
so also promotes a positive social climate and smooth operation and may enhance productivity of the
undertakings.
Crowd management is the act of aiding and controlling large crowds aboard your ship and keeping
passengers calm during emergencies or chaotic circumstances. Why is crowd management important?
Being in a crowd presents an unusual number of situations and behaviours in people. A lot of people act
in crowds in ways that they wouldn't act on the street by themselves, and this mentality can lead to
disastrous situations if not kept in check by experienced crowd management. Why is it important to
study the crowd and crisis management in hospitality setting? In a Crisis, Problem situations can create
serious risks to the hospitality industry's ability to continue regular operations. They can cause problems
with a hotel's perceived image, ostracize a customer base, and have devastating short- and long-term
financial consequences.
