An object is moving at a constant speed of 10 ms-1 for 5 sec. Find the distance travelled.

An object from rest took 5 sec to reach a speed of 10 ms-1 . Find the distance travelled in 5 sec.
An object at a height of 80 m is given a horizontal velocity of 30 m/s.
Air resistance is negligible.
Calculate
(i) the time it takes to hit the ground
(ii) horizontal distance travelled from the base of the cliff
(iii) the final velocity of the object when it hits the ground.
Frictional force depends only on the nature of the surfaces
It is independent of the surface area
Free Body Diagrams

A free body diagram shows the magnitude and direction of all the forces acting on an object

To solve the free body diagram questions:

- identify all the forces acting on the object

- give the direction to those forces
- identify a suitable force and resolve it into components
- equate the opposite forces and solve them

Resultant force/net force is not a part of free-body diagram

An object of mass m is kept on an inclined plane. If the object is at rest (about to move
down), find the coefficient of friction.

Newton's Laws of Motion

Two masses M and m are connected using a light weight cord over a pulley as
shown in the figure. If the coefficient of friction is , derive the expressions for
acceleration (a) and tension (T)
A spring is stretched by adding uniform weights until it reaches its elastic limit.
The variation of the load and the extension is shown below.

When the spring is stretched to an extension of x0 , the energy stored in the

spring is E. How much work is done when the spring is compressed from x0
to 0.5x0 ?
