The Moral Compass: Reflection on Ethics
Reflection on Ethics, the study of what is morally right and wrong, acts as society's moral
compass, directing human behavior and interactions. It is a complicated idea that influences our
decisions, behaviors, and the way we negotiate the complex web of relationships in our life. I
shall discuss the profound importance of ethics, its evolution, and its personal significance in
this essay. Over the years, ethics has changed as a result of cultural, philosophical, and religious
influences. While distinct, the ethical frameworks developed by various cultures and belief
systems have basic values including honesty, justice, and respect for others. Aristotle, Kant, and
Mill are just a few of the philosophers who have provided enduring ethical theories that are still
relevant in today's moral debates. I find ethics to be dynamic, which is one of its appealing
qualities. Ethics is dynamic; it changes as cultural norms and ideals do. New moral dilemmas
arise when civilization develops, such as those involving bioethics, artificial intelligence, and
environmental sustainability. In light of these concerns, it is clear that ethics is a framework for
moral reasoning rather than a strict collection of laws. Making ethical decisions frequently
requires striking a fine balance between personal interests and the common good. This
equilibrium is the core of a lot of ethical dilemmas. Consider the trade-off between
environmental responsibility and personal convenience, for instance, when choosing between
disposable and reusable bags. People are prompted to think about how their activities will
affect both themselves and others through ethical reflection. Ethics has personally been a major
influence on my ideals and actions. It has impacted my sense of obligation to other people and
the environment. For instance, I make an effort to live sustainably, mindful of the moral effects
of my choices on the environment and future generations. Ethics have also governed my
dealings with other people. I strive to treat others fairly and compassionately because I value
empathy and respect. This ethical viewpoint has improved my interactions with others and
made my life more peaceful overall. Finally, ethics acts as a lighthouse in the confusing maze
that is human existence. It is a dynamic idea that changes as society does, offering a framework
for moral judgment and personal development. When we think about ethics, it serves as a
reminder that our decisions should be in line with our beliefs and the interests of society as a
whole and that our acts have moral consequences. A just and compassionate society is built on
the foundation of ethical thought, which is more than just a philosophical exercise.

ASSESSMENT TASK NO. 3
VALUES AND CARDINAL VIRTUES
Directions: read and analyze the certain scenario below. Write your answer in the space
provided. Kindly refer to the rubric also in the succeeding page for you to know and understand
what the instructor’s expectation for the journal entry is and how you will be graded.
Scenario if you are a member of Philippine national Police who are bounded with values and
cardinal virtues as a public servant, and if it happens that you have a brother who sells
prohibited drugs, what are you going to do as a good police man, would you arrest him or
not? Support your claim.
I will arrest my brother because he already violated the law even though I am his brother I will
follow what are the right things to do. Not only I am his brother but I am a police too, who will
arrest those people who are violating the law. He should be aware of what are the
consequences he will going through. Because I am bounded with values and cardinal virtues, I
will do my best in order to maintain the good environment not only for myself but also the
environment of the other individuals. Prohibited drugs is one of the serious matter that
contradicted with law, so if there is anyone who will violate the prohibited drugs even though it
is one of my family member I will be the first one to arrest him or her so that he will be
punished of what him or her doing because if will not arrest him ,it will be reflected to me and I
will be the one who will carry all the burdens because I myself did not warn my brother of what
the wrong doings that he did.
