4.1 Introductory Activity

4.2 Activity Drill: Prepare T-accounts of the following transactions:


(15 minutes) 1. Mr. Ty invested P50 000 as initial investment in the business
2. Paid rent for the month, P10 000
3. Purchased cleaning supplies, P3 500
4. Collected P9 500 for car wash services
5. Paid the cleaning boy's salary, P5 000

4.3 Analysis Based on the following transactions, how do we prove the equality of debits and credits? What
(5 minutes) is a trial balance? How do we prepare a trial balance?

4.4 Abstraction
Discuss the Step 4 of the accounting cycle, which is preparing the trial balance. Tell the
(10 minutes) learners that if journalizing is done through a journal, posting is done through a ledger,
then balancing or proofing is done through trial balance. The following concept shall be
emphasized:
"A trial balance is a diagnostic tool. It is a report that summarizes the debit and credit
entries of each account in the ledger."

4.5 Application Let us prepare a trial balance out of this transactions:

3. Borrowed money from a bank with a note issued, P30 000.
4. Received cash for services rendered, P5 000.
5. Withdrew cash from the business, P10 000.

8. Collected a customer’s account, P12 000.
9. Paid the promissory note issued, P21 000.e
10. Paid salaries to employees, P32 000.
