Early History

The earliest traces of human habitation in the Peking municipality were found in the caves of Dragon
Bone Hill near the village of Zhoukoudian

 The first walled city in Beijing was Jicheng, the capital city of the state of Ji. This settlement
was later conquered by the state of Yan and made its capital.

Arhitecture

Three styles of architecture are predominant in urban Beijing:

 First, there is the traditional architecture of imperial China, perhaps best exemplified by the
massive Tian'anmen

 Next, there is what is sometimes referred to as the "Sino-Sov" style, with structures tending
to be boxy and sometimes poorly constructed

 Finally, there are much more modern architectural forms, most noticeably in the area of the
Beijing CBD in east Beijing such as the new CCTV Headquarters

Culture
Beijing has been the magnificent centre of traditional Chinese culture and learning since the Ming
dynasty. Emperors and courtiers patronized the arts, especially painting and calligraphy

Traditional jingxi (Peking opera)with its elaborate and stylized costumes and makeup, cacophonous
music

Chinese painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world

Weird Street Foods

people. Those bizarre offerings can be found in many food stalls along the street.
Steamed Crab
This is one of the famous snacks that local people like to eat in Beijing due to its freshness. Hairy
crab is a special delicacy in China, it is often served in big restaurants.
Weird laws
Cars are not allowed to stop at crosswalks
Cars need to stop at crosswalks so that pedestrians can cross the road. But this is not the case in
China where cars are not allowed to stop and let the pedestrians pass.

Dating a colleague is not allowed


Women in the company who have been employed in the company for three months and find a
boyfriend who is not an employee of the company, the company has to vet him to determine if he is
suitable.

Weird places in Beijing


China watermelon museum
The futuristically modern museum is packed with wax watermelons, displaying the various
varieties from around the world.The displays cover just about every aspect of watermelons
from their history

Dongyue Temple
Construction started on the building in 1319. If the hundreds of gruesome torture scenes
enacted by animal-headed spirit totems aren’t your thing, the grounds are also pleasantly
peppered with calligraphic stelles.
