In my opinion, we should hold public officials accountable by being critical of them rather than
celebrities. A public figure or celebrity does, however, belong to the general public. I believe that
we have a self-deprecating need to belittle others in order to satisfy our desire to feel superior.
Public people are fair game, so of course we treat them in this manner. Everyone is aware of who
they are, and many have come before us and left a path of criticism. While heroes they create
hope and help us grow fortitude in this trying time, it may be considered slander if we uploaded a
blog attacking someone no one knew or cared deeply about. If we criticize them, it merely shows
that we are ungrateful people.
