Debate – Today’s Celebrities are good role models for us

Our team will be arguing that in fact today’s celebrities are good role models
for us. First of all I will define the moot; we define a celebrity as a person that
is famously recognised, in society and culture. We defined a role model as
being somebody who is a worthy imitation. I as first speaker will convince you
that celebrities come in all shapes and sizes, with different personalities and
there are many good things we can learn from these people, whether what
they are doing is good or bad. Our second speaker Alana will focus on celebrity
athletes and will talk about their values and self discipline and their roles as
responsible citizens. Our third speaker Shaq will talk about the difference that
many Hollywood celebs make to other people’s lives through their charity
work.

I think everyone’s good in their own way. Good role models aren’t people with
a squeaky clean record, who never make mistakes. Good role models are
people who learn from their mistakes and become a better person from it.
Celebrities aren’t always perfect they’re just a bunch of people; in fact they are
stronger than some people because they survive their crazy glitz and glamour
world where they are constantly under the Medias microscope. Some people
couldn’t stand that but those celebrities could. So for me personally, I think it’s
normal for them to break down at one point, that doesn’t make them a
horrible person, just a regular one. What people usually see is their dark side
when there are always two sides. There are heaps of celebrities that are good
role models for example Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Brooke Fraser, Hayley
Westenra and so much more. There are loads of celebrities that give money to
charity for example Madonna – she is helping to raise $472,000 by auctioning
of her personal belongings, for a good cause. Justin Bieber is a good role model
because if you put your mind, heart and effort into something it could happen
and he proved it to us by his own personal experience. Yes, Lady Gaga might
not be a very good role model because of the inappropriate clothes she wears,
but that’s her own unique style that she uses to express herself and she just
wouldn’t be Lady Gaga without it. In a way she is a good role model because
she teaches us to be individuals and not be copies of everyone else and to
express yourself no matter what others may think of you. Susan Boyle is
another good role model because she proved to us that what’s on the outside
doesn’t count it’s what is on the inside that matters. She has inspired people all
over the world to not let looks get in your way of pursuing your dreams. Most
people judge celebrities on their image, just because they are too skinny or too
fat doesn’t make them a bad role model. It just describes them as going
through a tough time, because all celebrities have a time in their life where
they don’t look or act the way they would like to, but some celebrities that are
really good role models for us ignore what the media thinks of them and look
the way they feel the most comfortable and happy with themselves. If some
celebrities are anorexic or even obese that doesn’t mean we have to say they
are bad role models, that’s how they look it’s not up to us to change them, it’s
their life they can live it how they want. But they are celebrities and people
look up to them so they are constantly pressured into being a good role model,
I think that’s why they sometimes struggle with their image and we just have
to accept the fact that not everyone’s perfect but that doesn’t mean they are
bad role models for us.
