D. Discussion (Related Studies)

A. Introduction

A centrifugal fan, alternatively known as a centrifugal blower or just a blower, functions as

a mechanical device designed to displace air or other gases outward from the center of the fan's
rotation. Its operation is grounded in the fundamental principle of centrifugal force, which propels
objects away from the central axis of rotation. These fans find their application in a multitude of
scenarios where precise and controlled airflow is essential. They are commonly employed in HVAC
(Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems, industrial ventilation setups, dust collection
systems, and across a diverse range of industries. The versatility of centrifugal fans, allowing them
to generate pressure and accommodate varying airflow conditions, makes them e xceptionally
adaptable and suitable for a wide spectrum of tasks.

B. Fan Type

A centrifugal fan, also known as a centrifugal blower or radial fan, is a mechanical device
designed to move air or gases away from the center of the fan's rotation in a radial direction. Unlike
axial fans that push air parallel to the fan's axis (similar to typical household fans), centrifugal fans
operate by drawing air into an inlet and then redirecting it perpendicular to the rotation axis,
expelling it through an outlet in a radial or tangential direction.

C. Fan Performance Evaluation and Efficient System Operation

During the experiment, several key findings emerged. The discharge temperature
consistently decreased compared to the room temperature, indicating effective cooling. Pressure
varied when adjusting the fan speed, reflecting the fan's influence on airflow. Fan speed and airflow
showed a direct proportional relationship. While the fan exhibited no significant defects impacting
performance, the system's overall efficiency was limited due to suboptimal processes, making it
suitable for educational purposes but not for high-efficiency applications.

E. Conclusion

This experiment yielded several notable findings about the centrifugal fan's performance.
Contrary to initial expectations, the fan effectively reduced the air temperature upon discharge,
consistently producing cooler air than the ambient room temperature. Additionally, a clear
correlation was observed between the fan's speed control settings and its rotational speed, measured
in rpm, with higher settings resulting in increased rpm and airflow velocity. However, the
temperature remained relatively stable, likely influenced by the room's open environment and heat
exchange with the surroundings. These findings emphasize the significance of considering external
factors, such as room conditions, when interpreting experimental results and highlight the fan's
potential in applications requiring precise control of air temperature and velocity.
