Brief Background:
A powered device that moves air is called a fan. A fan is made up of a spinning
arrangement of vanes or blades that affect the air and are typically constructed of wood,
plastic, or metal. A revolving blade and hub assembly is referred to as an impeller, rotor,
or runner.
Most individuals might confuse fans with blowers and use them interchangeably
occasionally. However, in terms of how they operate, are constructed, serve, and are
used, fans and blowers are technically distinct. However, fans and blowers are largely
utilized for air conditioning and circulation in indoor spaces, HVAC systems, industrial
processes, and electronic equipment. Contrary to popular belief, the phrase "blower fan"
is also frequently employed, especially when it comes to the blower fan in industry. This
article compares and contrasts blowers and fans in terms of their industrial applications,
working principles, and structural elements.
Research Activities
1. Centrifugal fan (all with photo)
C. Fan types
There are three basic types of axial fans:propeller, tubeaxial, and
vaneaxial. Propeller fans are most commonly used for dilution ventilation or
cooling.
D. Categories of fan
The propeller, tube axial, and vane axial are the three main types of axial
fans. The most typical applications for propeller fans are cooling or diluting
ventilation. These fans are frequently ceiling- or wall-mounted.
G. Fan performance
B. Major type
b) Centrifugal Blowers.
e) Regenerative Blowers.
4. Calculation formulas
A. Air density
air density calculator uses the following formula:
DP = 243.12 * α / (17.62 - α)
Where α is a parameter that depends on the relative humidity RH and
temperature T:
α = ln(RH/100) + 17.62 * T / (243.12 + T)
B. Velocity calculation
Velocity (v) is a vector quantity that measures displacement (or change in
position, Δs) over the change in time (Δt), represented by the equation v =
Δs/Δt.
C. Volume calculation
Flow rate = Velocity x Area of cross section. Total capacity required = 884 /
0.8 = 1105 m3/hr = 651 CFM.
D. Fan efficiency
Fan efficiency is determined by dividing the air power by the fan input power.
