• What is Gimp?

GIMP is a powerful image editing program with many options and tools
which can help you to do lots of things like : color correction, add filters,
insert some text, or crop the photo…..etc.

➢ Main Windows
• The GIMP user interface is now available in two modes:
1. multi-window mode
2. Single window mode.
• When you open GIMP for the first time, it opens in multi-window mode by default.
You can enable single-window mode through Windows → >Single-Window Mode)
in the image menu bar.
• After quitting GIMP with this option enabled, GIMP will start in single-window
mode next time.

Single window mode

1- crop part of the image


There are two methods to activate the crop tool.
1. Select the Crop Tool ( ) from the Tools at the left or use Tools → Transform Tools → Crop.

2. Click on the image and "drag" out a "box". This is the area that will remain after cropping.

3. Adjust the cropping area: the boxes at the corners of the cropping area and drag them to resize the part of
the imageto crop.

4. Press the [Enter] key to crop.

2- Scale an image: -

Scale Tool is used to change the dimensions of an image [length and

width].

1. Use the resize tool from the Tools at the left Image → Scale Image to open the “Scale Image”
dialog.

3. The Image size window should appear

4. Type in the width or height you want, and the other dimension will automatically be adjusted.

3- Rotating an Image
Rotate tool used to rotate an image
- Open an image file.

- Select the rotate Tool ( ) from the Tools at the left


or use Tools → Transform Tools → Rotate.

- Drag and drop to rotate the image


or change the angle

- Press Enter from the keyboard after finishing.

4- Flip tool
Flip Tool is used to flip horizontally or vertically an
image.

Selection tools
The selection tools are used to select a part or more of the image to
deal with, like delete, cut, copy, paste, change the color of the selected
part in order not to change the whole image.

There are many selection tools used to specify part of the image, each one of
them has a specific way to use it. The selection tools are shown in The Main Toolbox
you can also access it through the Tools menu

1- Rectangle selection tools


Choose the selection tool "Rectangle" by clicking on the tools box.
To select, click by pushing the image in the selected place so a rectangular is drawn
as shown in the image

- The Magic wand tool or Fuzzy Selection tool is used to specify
similar colour schemes areas (all the colour grade) in the
image.

- Open the image file from the folder "images"


- Select the similar color schemes of the Image using the Fuzzy tool.

Color adjustments
1- Adjust contrast and brightness:

- choose Colours → Brightness-Contrast.


- Adjust the sliders to a setting that you are satisfied with then press ok.

2- Adjust Hue and Saturation:

In the image-menu through: Colors → Hue-Saturation Use the sliders for Hue, Saturation and
Lightness to adjust your image.
▪ Hue can be used to change the colors in an image.
▪ Saturation changes the intensity of colors, you can change the colors in an
image to pure, saturated colors, or you can wash the color completely out of a
picture (de-saturated image).
▪ Lightness changes the colors along a lightness–darkness scale.

3- Adjust color Levels: -


You can adjust the overall appearance of your image using levels,

1. From the Colors →levels.

2. This will bring up a graph of the distribution of tones in your image, which has three adjustment
controls at thebottom of the graph, move the white or black or mid-point until getting the satisfied
changing.
