Mr. Chen is a truck driver. He always drives carefully.
One day, his boss asked him to take several boxes of wine to a factory as soon as he
could, so he drove the truck a little too fast and hit a car. A man got out of the car angrily.
After checking his own car, the man took a business card out of his pocket and gave it to
Mr. Chen. From the card, Mr. Chen could see that the man was a lawyer. Mr. Chen then
took a bottle of wine from a box and a glass from the front seat of the truck. He filled the
glass with the wine, passed it to the man, and said, “You must be shocked. Have a drink.
Wine helps calm down one’s nerves,” said Mr. Chen. The lawyer then took a sip of the
wine. “Your hands are still shaking,” Mr. Chen said very politely, “Have more.” So the
lawyer drank all of the wine in the glass.
After a short time of rest, the lawyer felt better, and he said to Mr. Chen nicely, “Thanks.
You should drink some, too. It does help.” “No, I will pass,” Mr. Chen said in a cold and
strong voice, “I’m waiting for the police.”

My kids have grown up, and their feet have become too big to wear their shoes
which still look new and nice. Please let me know how I can give these shoes to
you. Or can you tell me someone else who would like to take them? Thanks a lot.

I like your shoes very much. They are beautiful and comfortable, and I totally agree
with your ideas about how to make shoes. I’d like to work for you. I’ll be the best
clerk you’ve ever had.

I’m interested in selling shoes, and I find that you don’t have any distributors in
Taiwan. So, may I be the one? I know you have “Bella World” in Hong Kong, but

Read the news of an avalanche and answer the questions.
April 17
Around 7 a.m., a giant avalanche of ice and snow slid down from West Shoulder on the
south side of the mountains. We’re not sure if Mr. Brown, the oldest climber of Mount
Everest ever, is well. His worried family is trying to reach him.

Mr. Brown has been found safe in the base camp. He hadn’t yet started climbing up the
mountains when the avalanche happened. He is lucky.
April 19
Thirteen were found dead, and four are still missing. All of them are the Sherpas because
they always take the icefall on the south side in order to carry heavy equipment for foreign
climbers who would wait in the base camp for a few days and then take the Northeast
Ridge to the top of Mount Everest. The job is dangerous, but that’s what the Sherpas do for
a living.
April 20
Mr. Brown decided to give up climbing and asked all the other climbers to help look for the
four missing Sherpas and take the injured down to the hospital.

Many people believe that drinking tea has more calming effects than drinking coffee.
They also think that green tea is better than black tea. Why do people think green tea is so
special?
Green tea has been used as one kind of Chinese medicine for a long time because it
makes people calm. Lately, more and more scientists have found that green tea is more
than that. They have known that one special thing in green tea, which is called EGCG, can
have great effects on our brains.
From their studies, scientists have noticed that if people drink green tea more often,
their brains work better. They also remember more things and think more quickly. Also,
for those who have a difficult time learning, green tea helps them study more easily. EGCG
even helps improve our language ability. It even works better in children and younger
people.
However, scientists can’t tell us how much green tea we should drink in order to make
our brains work better, since every person’s brain is different. One thing is for sure: Green
tea is good for us. So, as the saying goes, “You are what you eat.” Drinking more green tea
should always be better for us.

Is Your Food Safe? Let Smart Chopsticks Tell You

Whether the food you eat is safe or not has become the most asked question these days.
Soon, it may be answered easily. Today in a meeting, DaFa, the high-tech giant, showed a
set of smart chopsticks that can tell what kind of oil is used in food. “In the future, with the
smart chopsticks, you’ll be able to know where the oil, water, and other foods come from,
whether they’ve gone bad, and what nutrients they have,” Mr. Kao, manager of DaFa, said,
“When you see chopsticks, you see Chinese wisdom, and we are glad to have them catch up
with the modern world.”
Also on the same day, DaFa showed a new pair of smart glasses. The glasses can
not only take pictures and make videos but also be used as a cellphone. The glasses catch
people’s eye as well, but now people are more interested in the smart chopsticks.
DaFa did not name a date on which both new products would be on the market, but
many people have phoned DaFa to place orders for the smart chopsticks.
