BUILDING TECHNOLOGY 2
(1 STOREY BUILDING)

Joson, Joshua C.
Building
Defined as a functional facility with an enclosure to separate the outside
environment creating a sustainable structure to utilize ad also to maximize the use of
different materials and the efficiency of the plan anthropologically and ergonomically.
Humans need shelter to keep safe and meet comfort whether from rainy climate or from
hot and cold weathers where an individual must search for cool or warm space. A
sustainable building yearns for the provision of requirement and materials to provide
energy, water and waste management, and in essence, a shelter that meets strength,
utility, and beauty or also what we call buildings.

Construction
concerns relate to the practical problems of getting a building built safely, on time,
within budget, and to the required standards of quality: sequencing of construction
operations for maximum productivity ; optimum use of building trades; division of work
between the shop and the building site; convenient and safe worker access to
construction operations; effects of weather; making building components fit together;
quality testing of materials and components during construction; and much more.

Modern methods of construction

Modern Methods of Construction’ (MMC) is a wide term, embracing a range of
offsite manufacturing and onsite techniques that provide alternatives to traditional house
building. MMC ranges from whole homes being constructed from factory-built volumetric
modules, through to the use of innovative techniques for laying concrete blockwork onsite
Types of modern methods of construction may include the following.
Type Description Example
Is also referred to as
modular construction.
These units can be made
Volumetric construction from most materials
including light gauge steel
frame, timber frame,
concrete and composites.

1
Is also referred to as semi-
volumetric construction.
Highly serviced areas such
as kitchens or bathrooms
can be constructed as
Hybrid construction Volumetric units, with the
rest of the dwelling
constructed with panels.

Construction Methodology
A planned method of instruction with step by step process by which the structure
to be completed or a project execution is known as Construction Methodology taking into
account all contractual and legal requirements, construction constraints, risks, and
opportunities.
The construction methodology or execution planning services will be provided in
accordance with the contract requirements.
