Social Mobilization

We can define social as an interaction that forms a communication within the society.
Furthermore, mobilization pertains with the act of organizing to make a certain movement capable or
possible for a purpose. It is also a military terminology that means preparing forces for action for war
and environmental disturbances. In conclusion, correlated with the words derive from it ‘social’ and
‘mobilization’; Social Mobilization is a process that builds and engage all societal and personal influences
within community to raise awareness to facilitate and accelerate the improvement of children, women
and other marginalize group by cultivating sustainable individual and community involvement. It is an
approach wherein the participation of every individual is essential towards their own development.

This comprehensive planning approach emphasizes political alliance building and community
action. For instances such as calamities, to assist and deliver resources to those affected we raise
awareness and some projects such as fundraising in order to help them to overcome such disasters.
Also, related with its definition that is a process, it is concerned with mobilizing human and financial
resources main approaches involving: Political Mobilization - aims at winning political and policy
commitment for a major goal and the necessary resource allocation to realize that goal. It is a primary
method-lobbying where it may lead to struggle from attempting influencing the decisions of the
politicians. Next is the Community Mobilization, that is a process of engaging communities to identify
the priorities and resources for the community that they need and find a solution that will involve
participation. It involves a process from preparing to mobilize, organizing the community for action,
exploring health issues and set priorities, plan with the community, act together, evaluate and lastly
prepare to scale up. Social mobilization also approaches for Government, Corporate and Beneficiary
Mobilization.

Mobilizing the community through identifying the issue and resolving it by requiring the
participation of every entity within the community to engage themselves for their own development. It
is not only an approach “to call” upon people but also encourage them “to do” something. Of course, we
need to let our voices out to be heard when people on up is not willing to look down for unfortunate. In
conclusion, social mobilization is an effective problem-solving solution by empowering individuals and
communities to identify and address what do they need, their responsibilities and change their beliefs
that will organize and initiate action for their recovery with their own initiative for socioeconomic
development.
