1.0 Purpose:
To help prevent employee injury, illness and damage to the environment, it is extremely important to
properly receive, handle, store, dispose of and clean up all spills of chemicals that are used in the
fabrication yard. This procedure identifies the roles, responsibilities and best practices required for safe
and environmentally sound chemical use during each chemicals life cycle.

3.0 Scope:
This procedure applies to all PGCL employees and all contract personnel working at the Client’s
Facility, and PGCL’s facility #5-6 Cap de Ville Main Road, Point Fortin, Trinidad, W.I. or conducting
work on behalf of PGCL on the Client’s site.
4.0 Responsibilities
4.1 Accountant:
1. Ensure that only necessary amounts of chemicals ordered are delivered to the site, and are in
the smallest containers feasible for use.
2. Ensure that chemical supply companies are aware of PPE requirements required for Deliveries.
3. Ensure that all chemicals are accompanied with an SDS sheet
4. Communicate to suppliers how chemicals are to be packaged for safe off loading
5. Furnish materials department with a copy of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for each chemical
4.2 Supervisor:
1. Be familiar with this procedure and the chemical response provisions of the Emergency
Response Plan
2. Supervise the safe offloading of all chemicals
3. Ensure that employees and suppliers have and use all required PPE for the job
4. Ensure that all chemicals are stored in appropriate locations with proper signage posted
5. Ensure that flammables and combustibles are stored away from ignition sources with required
signage
6. Chemical storage access is for authorized employees only
7. Ensure that all chemical containers are safely stacked, organized and easily accessible
8. Ensure that all chemicals are stored in approved, labeled containers
9. Ensure SDS’s are obtained for all chemicals brought on site and a copy is promptly distributed
to the safety department for filing
10. Ensure there is proper secondary containment for bulk chemicals, fuels, etc.
11. Ensure workers are trained and competent to handle chemicals and spill clean-up
12. Activate the Emergency Response Plan in the event of a chemical spill or fire

4.3 Employees
1. Be familiar with this procedure and the Emergency Response Plan
2. Ensure employees that obtain and use chemicals are familiar with the SDS, use the proper PPE
and are trained in the safe use of the chemical
3. Ensure that chemicals are used in approved, labeled containers
4. Ensure that chemicals are used in well ventilated areas
5. Ensure employees are familiar with eye wash locations
6. Ensure that drip pans, plastic or other containment means are used to prevent ground
contamination
7. If possible, use up chemicals so that there is no residual waste left, only empty containers
8. In cases where there is waste left at the end of the job, ensure that the waste is stored in
appropriate, labeled containers, and placed in the waste storage area
9. Inform HSSE department when waste needs to be removed from facility
10. In the event of a spill or fire, activate the Emergency Response Plan
11. Ensure that only competent, trained responders are utilized
12. Supervise all aspects of spill clean-up and disposal
