Photometer and lamp adjustment.

2. Reason for the TSB


In case that the gain is out of range after replacing the photometer lamp this TSB provides steps to
adjust the photometer and the lamp in the Respons 920.

Pre-Requisites

• Cross-Screwdriver.
• Flat-Screwdriver.
• Pipette.
• Di-Water
• Allen key 2.5mm and 3mm
• Multimeter

3. Procedure Part I
Loosen the screws and open the analyzer.

Open right backdoor and adjust lamp Voltage to 11.8V by turning the plastic screw on the 12V DC
power supply.

Remove RCT Cover and the section of RCT to get access to the lamp housing.

Procedure Part II
Adjust Lamp housing and Lens
Take out the Cuvette No. 39 and check whether the light beam is in the middle of the photometer
hole.

Unscrew the two screws of the lens and move the lens plan to the lamp housing (to the left side),
tighten the screws after moving the lens.

Unscrew the two screws of the lamp housing and check whether the light beam is in the middle of
the photometer hole.

After alignment, please put in cuvette No. 39!

Please put a paper inside the light beam and perform an Autospan. We want to have all the gains out
of range.

After this, please remove paper!

Insert 500µl Di Water into Cuvette No.39.

Procedure Part III


Loosen the 3 screws to unfix the photometer.

Open [Maintenance], select „Manual Span“ and select 700nm filter and press [Start]. Voltage and
absorbance will be displayed and values will be refreshed every 5sec.

Align the photometer manually by moving it gently to all directions in order to achieve the maximum
voltage. Please mind the 5sec. delay!

If the highest Voltage (max 2.5V) is achieved, fix only one screw as shown in the picture below.

Press [Stop], change to 340nm filter and press [Start] again.

The best Voltage of all Gains is 2,5V.

Align the photometer manually by moving it gently to achieve the maximum voltage (max 2.5V).

Verify the center of the light path using the tool, provided with the analyzer, as below:

In case the light is not in the center of the tool, please perform the Procedure Part III.

Now fix all photometer screws.

Perform an „AutoSpan“

If the gain values match, perform “Cuvette rinse” two times consecutively and observe whether the
graphs are congruent respectively parallel with a shift less then 0,003abs. (see screenshot below)
